Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree and 3 years of experience. Master's Degree and 1 year of experience. 4 years of related exempt experience can be substituted for Bachelor's degree. 8 years of non-related exempt experience can be substituted for Bachelor's degree.

Preferred Qualifications

Producer/Videographer/Editor of video programs to train personnel in job skills, safety, machine operations, procedures and processes.

Candidate should be comfortable working in a collaborative environment with our team of training developers and NNS shipbuilding trades personnel.

Newport News Shipbuilding is an industrial environment and candidate will work in an industrial setting that requires extensive on-site video production requiring physical work including lifting and climbing.

Requires knowledge and experience in script writing, use of video cameras, lighting and audio equipment for field production and proficiency in digital editing.

Proficient in Adobe Suite: Premiere, After Effects, Media Encoding, Lightroom, Photoshop and other applications.

Position is mainly on first shift, however, candidate will be required work outside of first shift hours as assignments dictate.

VIEW JOBS 1/22/2020 12:00:00 AM 2020-04-21T00:00 External Job Description Specific to this position: Position will report to O41 Plant Engineering Technical Services Group and be part of the Structural Engineering Team. This assignment will support the Structural Team Lead on various tasks/project assignments across the entire Plant and serve as system engineer for structural related Facility Programs as assigned. Candidate should have significant structural engineering experience to include performing structural evaluations, conducting building assessments, performing code review/interpretations and responding to emergent safety related issues in a fast paced, large industrial facility setting. Candidate will support the structural team with overseeing work assignments of plant engineers, consultants, and contractors to ensure shipyard facilities (buildings, piers, dry docks, roads, bridges, storage structures, production equipment) are maintained in a safe condition. Provide quality technical services support, engineering guidance and regulatory code compliance review/interpretation in a customer focused environment. Actively performs unplanned event investigations to identify root cause of process/system/equipment failures and participates in critiques when necessary. Prepares impact studies and makes recommendations for future capital replacement and day-to-day maintenance initiatives. Candidate will need to have strong communication, project management, organizational and computer skills. Supports key strategic business development and strategic initiatives as assigned by management. Ability to complete assigned tasks on schedule and within budget is a must. Candidate will be expected to obtain licensure as a professional engineer. Analyzes, researches and develops structural engineering specifications involving metals, non-metallic or composite structural materials for product design, or operation of product to include structures, mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and electronics, power plant, armament, heating and ventilating, equipment and maintenance designs. Analyzes damage tolerance, durability, design allowables and structural modeling. Specific structural engineering specialties may include dynamics and loads, stability and stress fatigue and thermal analysis. Tools utilized may include CATIA, IDEAS, ProEngineer and a variety of software applications. Basic Qualifications 2 Years with Bachelors in Science; 0 Years with Masters- Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program. Preferred Qualifications * Fundamental of Engineering (FE) with progression to Professional Engineer (PE) licensure is preferred. * Extensive knowledge of National Building Codes, AISC, ACI, AWS, ADA and OSHA regulations is a plus as well as heavy industrial facilities experience. * Shipyard/nuclear facilities experience is desirable.
