Overview

The Media Buyer develops and negotiates assigned Direct Response TV ("DRTV") schedules and manages the media buys to meet client specific performance metrics. This position's responsibilities include negotiating and buying national cable, as well as stewardship of local market DRTV buys executed by Active's Spot Market Buying team.

Responsibilities

  • Support Senior Buyers and Broadcast Supervisors.

  • Negotiate and buy an assigned list of cable networks.

  • Provide diligent stewardship of all buys executed, including ongoing schedule revisions to optimize performance.

  • Participate in developing spec buys for potential new business.

  • Call sales reps for prevailing marketplace rates and programming schedules.

  • Prepare quarterly rate folders.

  • Maintain up-to-date rep list including name, phone, email and fax information.

  • Input direct response schedules into CORE system and into Active system.

  • Call for pre log and post log times from networks.

  • Download BVS (Broadcast Verification Services) into CORE System.

  • Run daily, weekly and quarterly reports and check for accuracy.

  • Prepare traffic instructions and verify with client and stations.

  • Participate in the reconciliation of vendor invoices and handle any discrepancies in order to complete necessary billing procedures.

  • Check contracts for accuracy and perform file maintenance.

  • Participate in and/or work on Ad hoc projects as assigned.

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent experience is required.

  • Minimum requirement of two years of media buying experience, preferably in DRTV.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel required.

  • Administrative experience in a corporate environment is a plus.

  • Proficiency in MediaOcean and CORE Direct media systems preferred.

  • Proficiency in PeopleSoft preferred.

Travel

This position requires regularly scheduled travel up to 10% of the time.

This position works closely with buyers, networks and advertising agencies/clients to aid in the execution and maintenance of Direct Response media placements. Responsibilities * Assist team of buyers in gathering rates and inventory availability from networks. * Prepare and maintain quarterly rate card folders. * Prepare and maintain monthly programming grid folders by requesting updated grids from the networks on a regular basis. * Maintain up-to-date media representative list inclusive of name, phone, email and fax information. * Assist team of buyers with entry of rates and buylines into CoreMedia System ("CORE Direct"). * Open job estimates in CORE Direct, MediaOcean and PeopleSoft. * Input direct response schedules into MediaOcean and/or PeopleSoft. * Send orders to designated media representatives for approved activity and then follow up as appropriate to ensure written confirmations are received. * Assist with placement of media schedules, provides network traffic requirements to the client/agency through email or fax. Follow up with the networks via telephone or email prior to airing in order to ensure all traffic materials have been issued to the network. * Set up all traffic information within CORE Direct prior to campaign start date. * Obtain and check all pre and post log times received from the stations are accurate. * Download BVS (Broadcast Verification Services), Galaxy overnight ratings, and telemarketing files into CORE Direct. * Reconcile network invoices for designated accounts. Ensure all commercials aired as reported during the campaign. Compile client billing and route invoices for approval and processing. * Participate in and work on ad hoc projects as assigned.
