We are looking for a new Media & Communications Manager to be based in our US office (New York or Boston). This is an exciting time for The Lancet family of journals, as we look to deepen engagement with our US audience and inspire advancements in clinical and global health on a greater scale than ever before.
Refining and expanding The Lancet's media and communications strategy in the US, in partnership with The Lancet communications team and US editorial team
Identifying proactive and reactive opportunities to promote Lancet Weekly and Specialty Journal content of interest to a US audience, in close partnership with The Lancet's communications team (largely UK based) and editorial team (US, UK and China based)
Developing and create strong media relationships with national and state-based health and science reporters
Create compelling media and social media copy to support proactive content promotion opportunities in the US, as well as leverage content with colleagues in London to support outreach
Manage reactive press office enquiries and monitor social media channels during Eastern time; escalate issues and risks appropriately during this time
Managing US based communications agencies or freelancers where required, to support with communications asset creation, such as video, audio or press releases
Attending targeted US based events or major conferences where there is a strong opportunity for communications
Being firmly embedded in the communications and marketing department that currently spans London, Beijing and New York
Strong background in science or health communications
Understanding of the US media landscape
An ability to build relationships remotely

Bachelor's Degree in Public Relations, Communications, Marketing, Science, Health or relevant field
3 to 5 years of experience
Previous editorial experience
