Operate various tool room equipment in the construction, alteration, and repair of tools, dies, fixtures, test equipment, manufacturing equipment or other related tool making functions. Work from blueprints, sketches, planning sheets, verbal instructions and/or engineering, tool, or equipment information. Contribute to lean initiatives to increase productivity and reduce costs. Must be able to work independently with minimum guidance and in a team environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Set-up and operate manual tool room equipment, CNC Swiss Screw Machine and multiple machines.
Produce and edit CNC programs.
Maintain close and exacting tolerances and finish requirements.
Select proper materials and tooling, and proficiently works from rough sketches or concepts in the absence of proper specifications. Improvises, trouble shoots, and resolves complex machining problems.
Inspect finished products for conformance to dimensional specifications using precision measuring instruments such as gages, calipers, micrometers, comparators, and complex surface plate techniques.
Ensure equipment is calibrated in accordance with the documented schedule.
Advise and assists with tooling design and improved manufacturing methods and techniques.
Responsible for machining and checking tools and fixtures to maintain a high level of quality and efficiency.
Actively contribute to lean initiatives, by identifying and providing suggestions on areas for improvement. Including equipment purchases.
Effectively applies lean concepts and tools in work area.
Observe all company policies and procedures, including safety rules, and maintains a clean and orderly work area.
Train and mentor less experienced team members.
Perform other responsibilities as requested.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Five or more years of tool making or direct related machining experience in a high technology manufacturing environment.
Handle multiple tasks with changing priorities to meet customer needs.
Read, understand and follow blueprints, complex drawings, engineering specifications, and informal written or verbal instructions.
Able to make and evaluate complex machine set ups.
Working knowledge of advanced machine shop mathematics, including trigonometry. Possesses knowledge of cutting tool geometry for different cutting tool types and materials.
Able to implement lean initiatives.
Demonstrate effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, as well as the ability to work in a team environment on research and solution development.
Possess effective mentoring and training skills, and ability to serve as a resource to other team members.
Interpret reports and uses job specific software applications. Able to use employee self-service systems to access on-line information and use specialized automated systems (i.e. CMMS, e-mail). Required by 90th day of employment.
Able to work with minimum supervisory guidance.

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Experience making welding fixtures.
Experience making spring loaded electrical fixtures.
Experience working in automotive manufacturing.
Familiar with Six Sigma quality standards.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
5 years of experience working as a general machinist or tool maker.
Certificate from recognized vocational or technical school, equivalent apprenticeship.
Ability to be contacted via a current & working phone number at all times during employment.
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
Ability to write in English simple correspondence.
Ability to effectively present information in English in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS
While performing the duties of this job, the team member is required to walk, stand, and sit for extended periods of time.
The team member is required to demonstrate manual dexterity and use hands to operate machinery.
