Medical / Surgical at Retreat
5E is a medical unit that houses medical patients and complex care patients. Complex Care patients are patients with strokes, wounds, brain injury, general debilitation, respiratory issues, and trachs .The goal is to get these patients to tolerate rehab for 3hrs a day so they can move on to acute rebab or home. There is a mixture of patients in each assignment and complex care patients are divided amongst all nurses.

Unit Information

  • 23 bed medical unit

  • 4:1 patient ratio

  • Average patient volume is 13

Responsibilities

  • Assesses, plans and evaluates patient care needs

  • Carries out physician orders

  • Administers prescribed medications, changes dressings, cleans wounds and monitors vital signs

  • Serves as the primary coordinator of all disciplines for well-coordinated patient care

  • Monitors, records and communicates patient condition as appropriate utilizing computerized documentation systems

Education

Required: Diploma or Associates Degree from a professional nursing program

Preferred: BSN or current enrollment in a BSN program at an accredited school of nursing

Licensure / Certification

Required: Current Registered Nurse License in this state

Required: American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Health Care Provider

Responsibilities of RNs in our PAT unit: * Pre- Admission Testing department evaluates the patients posted for surgical procedure to ensure high quality safe care is delivered * Nurses are responsible for assessing patients prior to surgery and providing education in regard to their surgical experience * Nurse Practitioners also evaluate patients, order needed testing and assist with further education * Testing results are evaluated by Nurse Practitioners, nurses and Anesthesia providers to ensure a surgical home for our patients is maintained. * On average, 800 patients are seen every month for full evaluation * Types of surgeries conducted: Colorectal, general gynecology, gynecological oncology, general surgery, otolaryngology (ear, nose and throat), urology, urogynecology , Neuro Surgery, Plastics and Orthopedic Surgery * Leadership opportunities include being a part of Shared Governance councils and professional growth opportunities within our career ladder * A supportive culture focused on fostering educational opportunities and specialty certification * Leaders on this unit have a passion for supporting nurses in reaching their professional goals, excellent practice, and collegial relationships What Sets Us Apart: "I am new to the PAT and what I love most is how friendly the co-workers are.
