We want your help creating develop connected hardware systems needed for future Zero Labs products. For mechatronics engineers, we expect baseline proficiency and/or professional experience within electrical, mechanical and/or software engineering.

  • Within the electrical domain, your skillset may include hardware design (PCB, wire harness, electronic systems, display systems), hands-on skills (debugging, bench testing, soldering), and/or firmware development (C/C++, controls, test scripting, version control).
  • Clear understanding of the 1st principle physics of mechatronics system – loads, forces, current, voltage and overall function of the system, and the tradeoffs among design, package, function, and customer experience involved with these systems
  • In mechanical engineering, we want to see capabilities in mechanism design (planning, modeling, verification), hands-on skills (prototyping, fabrication, testing), and/or analysis (static, dynamic, thermal).
  • Within software engineering, the best engineers will be able to write maintainable code that allows a system to perceive and interact with its environment (via embedded processor, PLC or computer system), interact with users (frontend development for mobile devices, local computers or web servers), or manage data on the backend (API dev, database management). Modeling and describing physical systems in mathematics and code is particularly useful in many robotics programs.
  • In short, a successful mechatronics engineer at Zero Labs will be able to contribute meaningfully within at least two engineering disciplines. Everyone has a mix of experience, which we value, but we tend to look closely for people that get excited to learn new things and expand their skillset
  • Success in this role will require creativity, confidence, organization, and energy tempered by a sincere willingness to listen, learn, and understand what is needed from your designs. We want you to guide brainstorm sessions and quickly incorporate feedback to create electromechanical prototypes and testing apparatus.
  • Understanding of automotive Safety requirements
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills with a high level of integrity
  • End-to-end product design/development from prototyping to mass production experience

Requirements

  • A history of bringing new ideas to life via the use of first principles analysis, CAD tools, sensor integration, and a combination of machining, additive manufacturing, and softgoods prototyping processes. Sketching and free body diagrams will be meaningful communication tools, and judicious use of GD&T and tolerance analysis will be expected.Within the electrical domain, your skillset may include hardware design (PCB, wire harness, electronic systems), hands-on skills (debugging, bench testing, soldering), and/or firmware development (C/C++, controls, test scripting, version control)
