Best known for Little Debbie snack cakes, America's leading snack cake brand, Sunbelt Bakery granola products, and Drake's Cakes, McKee Foods Corporation is seeking a Mechanical/Industrial Engineering Intern to be a part of our team in Corporate Engineering for the Summer of 2022. Students selected for this position will receive guidance from experienced engineers as they learn the dynamics of the engineering function from the inside of a leading snack-food manufacturer. Job Summary
Learn from the best(!) as you assist our Corporate Engineering Group in all phases of projects helping to ensure cost, schedule and performance objectives are successfully met
Collect, verify, and analyze field dimensions, system performance and other project data both from the field and from business systems software
Plan, coordinate, execute, and document performance tests for baseline analysis or validating potential system improvements, including breaking bottlenecks
Work with operations and maintenance on identifying, developing, and executing performance and/or infrastructure improvements
Assist in the formation of potential Capital Projects through research, sourcing, design/layout, data analysis, project planning, presentation, and validation activities
Work with internal talent to design, fabricate, implement, and refine devices that aide in ergonomics, quality, food safety, efficiency, or usability of our operations and equipment
Work with external vendors and contractors at all stages of the project lifecycle
Assure installations adhere to approved drawings and equipment specifications
Track purchase requisitions, and drawing packages from design through installation
Provide weekly updates to the management team on project status and schedule progress/completion
Maintain daily project diary for project record keeping
Perform CAD and Solidworks operations for layouts of proposed and existing operations
Perform other related duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
Current enrollment/full completion of at least 2 full academic years of a BS degree program in, Mechanical or Industrial Engineering from an ABET-accredited engineering school. OR completion of 2 years of full-time pre-engineering studies program by May 2022, along with a verifiable acceptance into an ABET-accredited 4 year engineering program for fall of 2022
Academic eligibility to attend classes in the fall
Ability to organize and prioritize multiple project activities
Willingness to travel to other McKee facilities, vendor locations, and suppliers as required
High level of initiative, assertiveness and self-direction
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to excel in a collaborative and fast-paced project team environment
Preferred Qualifications
Familiarity with continuous improvement philosophies such as Lean or Six Sigma
Familiarity and experience with CAD, Solidworks, and other design software
Prior technical work experience
Manufacturing or Warehousing experience/exposure
Minimum GPA of 2.75
