Overview:
The Quonset Point Test department, 972, is hiring mechanical technicians to perform acceptance testing in support of Virginia and Columbia class submarine construction. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, all aspects of the following:
Hydrostatic testing of ship's hardware
Proof of cleanliness flushes of ship's hardware
Hydraulic valve operation
Tank level calibration
Compartment and lead bin completion (air) tests
Utilize provided test documentation to perform test per procedure
Record test results and document UNSAT conditions
This work will be performed both in the shop and onboard submarines under construction. Technicians are trained and required to obtain "mechanical test director" qualification.
This is an hourly position located at the Quonset Point facility in North Kingstown, RI.
Qualifications
Required:
High School Diploma or equivalent
2+ years' experience in a mechanical, piping or structural field
Able to work in confined spaces and in areas that are not climate controlled
Basic math skills including percentages, decimals and division
Strong reading comprehension skills
Available to work all shifts
Basic computer skills
Individuals will be required to possess their own basic hand tools
Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance through the Department of Defense.
Preferred:
Navy Nuclear Machinist Mate or Auxiliary training highly desired
Prior US Navy and/or shipboard testing experience is highly desired
Related military training, Vocational, Technical, Community College or appropriate Apprenticeship programs
Troubleshooting experience
Familiarity with procedures and mechanical/piping drawings
Experience working with cleanliness control qualifications
