Entergy's Power Generation group operates a fleet of more than 30 owned, leased, or operated natural gas, coal, oil hydro, solar and petroleum coke plants, with a total engineering capacity exceeding 20,000 megawatts. Entergy continues to build or acquire megawatts from new hydrogen capable natural gas units, solar, wind and other technologies complement its existing megawatts of nuclear, natural gas, coal, oil, hydroelectric, and solar facilities.

  • These positions may be filled as a Maintenance Operator 4 (MO 4), Journeyman Maintenance Operator (JMO), or Mechanical Technician (MT) based on the qualifications and experience of the selected candidates. *
  • The below description is that of a Mechanical Technician but is subject to change based on the level the position is filled. *

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Under general supervision, with wide latitude for planning or laying out of working details, must be able to perform highly complex mechanical work involved in the inspection, repair and installation of mechanical equipment in generating stations, and be qualified to do the following and related work as assigned:

  • Inspect and maintain all power plant mechanical equipment, such as boilers, turbines. Pumps, fans, condensers, tanks, buildings and fixtures, piping systems, compressors, heat exchange apparatus, and appurtenant equipment in accordance with applicable statutory rules and regulations.

  • Erect foundations and supports and install minor auxiliary and related apparatus such as pumps, turbines, piping layouts, valves, regulators, traps, building fixtures, tanks, etc.

  • Diagnose mechanical troubles of important equipment and apparatus and correct or recommend corrective measures.

  • Perform operations requiring reasonable precision with machine tools, such as drill presses, pipe and bolt threading machines, band saws, punch, or shear, etc.

  • Perform precision work with hand and bench tools in connection with the fitting, adjustment, alignment, etc. of governors, bearings, shafting, gears and similar mechanical equipment.

  • Fabricate tools and fixtures for routine special use.

  • Set up rigging for the installation and maintenance of mechanical equipment, foundations, supports, etc.

  • Layout work from prints or verbal instructions.

  • Direct work of assistants.

  • Assist in general operation and maintenance during unusual or emergency periods.

  • Prepare maintenance and other routine reports.

  • Perform necessary housekeeping.

EXPERIENCE AND SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have worked as a Maintenance Operator or have had equivalent experience in power plant operations and maintenance.

  • Must have at least three years' experience in power plant or related work.

  • Have a thorough knowledge of mechanical work, such as piping and accessory installations, boiler, turbine and pump maintenance, bench and machine work, etc.

  • Be familiar with advanced mechanical principles.

  • Be familiar with the strength and use of ropes, chains, cables, etc. as used in rigging.

  • Be proficient in the use of and nomenclature of tools and equipment ordinarily used.

  • Have a thorough knowledge of the operation, construction and function of boilers, turbines, pumps, heaters, steam traps, piping systems, regulator and mechanical control devices, etc.

  • Be familiar with various kinds of metals, their applications, available sizes and shapes.

  • Be able to compute bills of material for jobs, working from specifications or from oral instructions.

  • Be thoroughly familiar with Company's electrical and mechanical tagging rules.

  • Have ability to understand and perform semi-routine operations of high complexity and considerable variety where standard methods of procedure are available.

  • Know Company's safety rules and be able to administer all approved methods of resuscitation, and be able to render practical first aid.

  • Know the location of and be able to operate, all of the firefighting equipment.

  • Know what kind of equipment to use on electrical oil and other fires.

PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • MO 4: Age -18 minimum.

  • Must have full use of mental and physical faculties.

  • Must have strength and endurance adequate for arduous labor as circumstances may require.

PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Be particularly alert in observing hazards and avoiding accidents.

  • Be willing to attend and take part in safety meetings.

  • Be willing to work under unusual surroundings, as well as the normal working conditions pertaining to this job.

  • Be willing to work irregular or extra hours as required.

  • Be able to receive and transmit orders and instructions in such a manner as to inspire respect and confidence of both superiors and subordinates.

  • Have a temperament suited to jobs where manual dexterity. precision and patience are particularly essential.

  • Be especially neat. clean and orderly in work and person.

  • Understand importance of always rendering and maintaining first class. courteous service to all customers.

  • MT: Be capable of assuming supervisory responsibilities.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:

  • At least 3 - 5 years of experience in power plant operation and maintenance or related work.

  • Preferred: experience in welding, millwright, mechanical, maintenance, pipefitting, boilermaker.

ANY CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, ETC.:

  • Successful completion of the EEI POSS/MASS test.

  • Preferred:

  • NCCCO crane and rigging certification.

  • Welding certified in GTAW and SMAW.
