Job Description Job Description Mechanical Technician (Level II) SUMMARY: The basic function of the Mechanic is to install, troubleshoot, clean, inspect, and maintain mechanical equipment throughout the facility in a safe, environmentally compliant and professional manner.

SAFETY: Understand and follow all safety procedures Current on all safety training Wears all required PPE when necessary (steel toe boots, safety glasses, ear plugs) Understanding of Lock Out Tag Out procedures for assigned areas. Perform duties according to OSHA guidelines, policies and procedures Complete General Plant Safety Training within the first 8 weeks. PRINCIPLE ACTIVITIES:

The following lists the principle activities associated with the position of Mechanic. Monitors and maintains facility equipment to ensure safe, environmentally compliant and efficient equipment and facility operation. Maintains and follows all Company environmental compliance, health and safety requirements, policies, procedures and rules.

Completes all required Environmental Compliance Training. Performs preventive and repair maintenance procedures safely, environmentally compliant and professionally with minimal supervision in accordance with Federal and State Regulations, and Company Work Rules, Policies and Procedures. Initiates and completes work-orders and requisitions, and documents all critical and or pertinent information on a routine basis.

Available to work scheduled and unscheduled overtime. Responds and reports to work during off hours when emergency repairs are required. Takes proactive measures to address improvement opportunities.

Completes required training programs as directed. Assists in training other employees. Directs those assigned to assist in the safe, environmentally compliant and efficient completion of maintenance tasks.

Assumes increased levels of responsibility when required or requested. Performs lesser skilled duties when required or requested. Job Specific Competencies Hand Tools & Portable Power Tools - knowledge, skills, and abilities required to properly identify and safely and effectively use and maintain hand tools and portable power tools on a routine basis while performing maintenance tasks.

Mechanical Fasteners - knowledge, skills, and abilities required to properly identify and safely and effectively maintain and install various types of threaded fasteners and retaining rings. Knowledge, skills, and abilities required to identify ASTM and SAE fastener grade markings, thread standards, torque requirements, and washer requirements for the specific task at hand. Blue Print Reading - knowledge skills and ability to read and interpret plant piping and instrument diagrams.

Ability to identify equipment and piping line material specifications through symbology and line number designations. Ability to read and interpret P&ID diagrams, hydraulic and pneumatic schematics, piping material specification sheets, and other reference materials including but not limited to the pipe fitters handbook. Required to read and interpret basic welding and fabrication drawings, typical welding fabrication symbols, welding procedures, and welding fabrication reference materials Computer Skills

  • Working knowledge and understanding of Windows based Word Processing and Spreadsheet programs Computerized Maintenance Management System

  • Knowledge and understanding of the Computerized Maintenance Management System. Efficiently complete all responsibilities associated with the CMM System. Project Management Software

  • Working knowledge and Understanding of Project Management Software. Equipment Maintenance and Repairs

  • Knowledge, skills, and abilities in all aspects of routine equipment inspections, preventive maintenance, and repair. Troubleshooting Skills - knowledge and experience necessary to identify and correct mechanical malfunctions. Hydraulic and Pneumatic Systems - knowledge, skills, and abilities required to safely and effectively troubleshoot, maintain, and repair electrical-hydraulic and electrical-pneumatic systems as part of normal maintenance procedures.New Equipment Installation

  • Conduct acceptance and performance tests on new equipment Supervisory Skills - effectively supervise department and contractor personnel in accordance with all Work Rules, Policies and Procedures, and complete all planning, scheduling, and budgeting duties as required to support the safe and efficient operation of the facility. Budgeting Process

  • Participates in the process to support the annual R&M budgeting process. Pipe Fitting Skills

  • Required to safely and effectively maintain and install piping, tubing, and hose type fluid transfer systems. Required to safely and effectively operate all pipefitting equipment including hand tools, power threading equipment, and hose fabrication equipment.

    Maintain and install all threaded, soldered, and glued piping systems. Maintain and install all carbon steel and stainless steel socket weld and butt weld piping systems. Maintain and install all compression fitting tubing and hose fluid transfer systems. Mechanical Skills

  • Knowledge, skills, and abilities required to safely and effectively trouble-shoot, maintain, install or perform the following: Chain Drive Systems, Belt Drive Systems, Couplings, Bearings, Pumps, Valves, Rigging Skills, Hydraulics & Pneumatics, Machinist Skills. Welding & Fabrication Skills

  • Required to satisfy the requirements of the AWS all position structural welding code by successfully completing a test coupon in the 3G, vertical position (upward progression), and a test coupon in the 4G overhead position. Required to safely set up and effectively use an oxygen / acetylene fuel heating and cutting torch on carbon steel material up to 1" in thickness.

    Required to safely and effectively set up and effectively use the plasma arc-cutting torch on carbon and stainless steel materials up to 1" in thickness.

    Required to safely and effectively use the carbon arc cutting apparatus to cut or gouge carbon steel and stainless steel materials up to of 1" in thickness.

    Required to safely and effectively set up and use the oxygen-burning lances.

    Education / Experience: Education High School or equivalent Experience: Minimum of 3 years of Mechanical Maintenance experience or a minimum of 1 year experience as a Mech 1st Certifications And Licenses ASTM structural welding certification CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES: Other

  • Licenses as required by State, Federal, Environmental and/or Health/Safety Regulatory agencies. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    Must:

    Read, understand, and apply information such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Read, analyze and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Read and comprehend vendor manuals, instruction manuals, technical data, work orders, and training materials.

    Write routine reports and correspondence Speak effectively with colleagues and other employees of organization Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form Communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing; as well as communicate (2-ways-speak and hear) clearly via two-way radio. Demonstrate basic math skills to apply them as needed to complete required job functions. Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

    Recognize operational inconsistencies and hazards and display proper judgment in responding to them. Demonstrate logical and sound judgment in choosing courses of action. Required to identify and effectively use basic and precision measuring tools to calculate and determine lengths, surface areas, and volumes as necessary while performing maintenance tasks on a routine basis.

    Required to use reference materials and basic formulas to calculate lengths, surface areas, and volumes as necessary while performing maintenance tasks on a routine basis. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to lift at least 50lbs and to push-pull up to 75lbs.

    Must be able to work long periods while continuously standing, twisting, bending, reaching, and stooping. Must be able to work environment which is dusty and noisy. Must be able to work in plant environment with extreme seasonal temperatures.
