GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Supports the Aircraft Structural Mechanic for the installation of mechanical structural, and repair of mechanical and structural components for, systems on military, commercial aircraft, and other assets as may be applicable.

DUTIES

  • Fabricate and install mechanical structural components for, systems such as military shelters, aircraft, ground vehicles, etc.

  • Read, understand, and work from engineering drawings

  • Other Duties as Assigned

EDUCATION

  • High school diploma or graduate equivalency

  • Graduate of a technical school is desired

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in mechanical design and sheet metal fabrication on systems as assigned

  • Trade school diploma or A&P license can be substituted for experience

  • Must be familiar with the use of hand tools, air tools, rivet tools, and sheet metal and some machine tools (such as shears, breaks, notchers, saws, milling machines, lathes etc.)

  • Must be familiar with measuring tools, test instruments, and painting equipment

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required. Must be able to walk and stand on level and/or inclined surfaces for certain periods throughout the day. Must be able to climb stairs, ramps, ladders, and work stands, working at heights with fall protection devices. Must be able to crouch, crawl, grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbow/knee and reach above/below shoulders. May be required to lift up to 50 pounds and carry for short distances. May be required to read dials/gauges, identify small objects and hand tools. Must be able to see imperfections, micrometer readings and other small scales. Must be able to communicate by voice and detect sound by ear. Must be able to distinguish color and judge three-dimensional depth. May be required to operate power vehicles, machinery, hand tools, ground support equipment, fork lift, APU, etc. May be required to work in varying temperatures and weather.

Responsible for ensuring coordination across all engineering functions (Manufacturing, Propulsion, Thermal, Specialty and Electrical) establishing strong collaboration and strengthening synergy between propulsion/production engineering and manufacturing floor at Stennis with the program design engineering located across all SSC sights. Ensure that Spacecraft and Tool Engineering supplied to the Propulsion Manufacturing Center is producible and the Engineering Design intent is followed in the Manufacturing Work Instructions (MWI) Floor Manufacturing and Test Operations. Establish an integrated Engineering team of component CPEs and delegates with Liaison engineering, manufacturing, tooling, and test disciplines. Responsible for coordinating subordinate employee recruitment, selection and training, performance assessment, work assignments, salary, and recognition, and disciplinary actions with functional badge managers in each of the engineering disciplines. Responsible for ensuring coordination across all engineering functions and establishing strong collaboration between Engineering and the manufacturing floor. Provides guidance to subordinates based on organizational goals and company policy. Results are reviewed in terms of meeting the organization's objectives, schedules, financial goals, and making significant advancements in the Manufacturing Work Instruction process/quality. Establish operating policies and procedures that affect subordinate organizational units. Interprets, executes, and recommends modifications to organizational policies. Focuses on directing organization to meet critical schedules, resolve critical/complex technical or operational problems. Directly participates in establishing and administering many projects and assignments. Develops and administers budgets, schedules, and performance standards.
