Job Responsibilities

  • Diagnoses and repairs the cause of mechanical equipment malfunctions such as pumps, valves, fans, piping, structures, tools, etc. Reviews oil analysis and vibration data and alerts the Maintenance Manager of out of limit trends.

  • Installs new mechanical equipment as required.

  • Properly use mechanical testing equipment and other similar tools.

  • Performs rotating equipment alignment using precision tools.

  • Performs oxyacetylene cutting, shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), and gas metal arc welding (GMAW) including layout and fit up.

  • Removes, cleans, inspects, and installs sliding surface and rolling contact bearings with fixed or adjustable running clearances.

  • Disassembles, inspects, repairs, adjusts, and assembles valves requiring lapping, part replacement, cleaning and packing replacement.

  • Performs the maintenance of equipment by cleaning, adjusting, tightening, performing corrective, predictive and preventative maintenance, and identifying equipment in need of maintenance action.

  • Maintains equipment by tightening fittings, replacing valve packing, gaskets, valves, gauges, etc. and cleaning, replacing, oiling, and lubricating other component parts and equipment as required.

  • Visually inspects and listens to equipment to detect malfunctions or need for repair, adjustment, or lubrication.

  • Repair, replace, dismantle, and examine defective parts and components. Diagnose cause of mechanical and operational malfunction or failure of equipment.

  • Opens, inspect, overhauls pumps and gearboxes.

  • Cuts, fits, and installs threaded pipe, valves, and fittings.

  • Develops rigging plans and performs rigging operations using safe work practices.

  • Fully supports the use of a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) by demonstrating proficiency in using the system and entering data consistent with the facility maintenance philosophy. Records equipment discrepancies in detail on work orders and documents maintenance actions taken. Executes corrective and preventive maintenance work orders in a timely and high-quality manner. Closes work orders when all tasks are complete. Shows diligence in documenting spare parts usage and re-ordering.

  • Initiates purchase requests and coordinates with and directs outside contractors as required to ensure completion of position responsibilities.

  • Reads meters, gauges, or automatic devices to record data such as pressures, temperatures, fluid levels, vibration, hours of operation, pressure, and fluid levels to verify operating conditions and assess maintenance conditions.

  • Support activities to maintain compliance with all administrative, operational, NERC, HSE and other regulatory programs and procedures.

  • Use facility operating procedures and equipment technical manuals to maintain and repair facility equipment and ensure equipment is operated within operating range.

  • Performs capital project and/or major program responsibilities as assigned by the Maintenance Manager.

  • May be required to drive a licensed motor vehicle to supply or repair facilities to deliver or retrieve parts or materials for the facility.

  • Assists other OMTs in repairing and maintaining plant equipment.

  • Perform general housekeeping and continuous improvement of the appearance of the facility. Maintain the cleanliness of all areas of the plant and control room, or other duties as assigned.

  • Ensure all accidents, incidents, near misses, and potential hazards are immediately reported to Facility Management.

  • Keeps the Lead OMT and/or Facility Management fully informed of unusual plant conditions and current job progress as it relates to facility operations.

  • Works with Facility Management in managing the facility's warehouse and spare parts inventory, performing audits as needed.

  • Supports outage planning and scheduling involvement as needed.

  • Cover the duties of OMTs and the operation of the facility as required.

  • Assist with development of Operations and Maintenance procedures as assigned.

  • Assist with performing Root Cause Analysis of failures.

  • May operate plant equipment such manlift and forklift.

  • Reads, understands, and complies with all regulatory procedures, permits and safety programs.

  • Will support an atmosphere of employee involvement, trust, and motivation through employee mentoring, participation, empowerment, collaboration, and training.

  • Foster a team culture which is flexible and adaptable to change, striving for continuous improvement in the accomplishment of work.

  • Other duties as assigned by Facility Management.

Required Skills / Knowledge

  • Demonstrates knowledge of all facets of power plant maintenance.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of gas and steam turbine maintenance.

  • Knowledge of GE 7HA.02 heavy frame, advanced technology gas turbines, GE A650 steam turbines and single shaft arrangements is preferred.

  • Demonstrates the ability to make competent decisions in emergency situations.

  • Adept at troubleshooting and diagnosing problems with mechanical equipment with the ability to apply a resolution in a timely fashion.

  • Proficient at repairing, replacing, dismantling, and inspecting defective plant equipment and parts such as pumps, valves, fans, gearboxes, demineralizers, compressors, and turbine components.

  • Capable of operating welding and cutting equipment and completing metal fabrication projects.

  • Capable of setting up and operating a drill press, pipe threading machine, grinder, and other various tools to make and repair parts and equipment.

  • Demonstrates the ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical one-lines, logic drawings, technical manuals, and P&ID's.

  • Above average computer proficiency with Microsoft Office software.

  • Above average verbal and written communications skills.

  • Ability to operate a fork-lift and similar plant equipment.

Experience

  • Minimum of five (5) years of directly related operations or maintenance experience in an electrical generating facility, or other process related industry.

  • Knowledge of advanced technology gas turbines, steam turbines, single shaft arrangements and commissioning experience is preferred but not required.

  • Maintenance planning and scheduling experience preferred.

Education Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.

  • Associates Degree (AA) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school is preferred. Education in power generation, mechanical maintenance, operations, electrical maintenance or instrument and controls is a plus.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to do walking, reaching, climbing, and lifting (up to 50 pounds).

  • Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces.

  • Must be willing to work overtime and be available for call-ins as needed to support reliable operation of the facility.
