The Department of Parks is currently seeking highly qualified and motivated applicants to fill an open Maintenance and Operations Consultant position working out of Park's central office location in Frankfort, Kentucky.

Master level licensure in Plumbing, with at least five years of project management experience is preferred. Boiler and / or Chiller endorsements is plus. Also preferred is proficiency with computer programs - specifically Excel, Word, and Outlook.

This position will work collaboratively with a wide range of Parks staff including other Master licensed trades staff, Construction craftsmen and Planning & Design professionals. The Maintenance & Operations Consultant position manages and supervises the repair, installation, and operations of major plumbing systems across the state for the Department of Parks.

Duties of the position include but are not limited to the following:

  • Manage and supervise new maintenance projects and repairs with the primary focus being plumbing, plumbing infrastructure, boilers, and other water systems.

  • Perform investigations, troubleshooting, repairs, and audits of Park plumbing systems.

  • Develop project-scoping documents, cost estimates, and project schedules. Provide project status updates, budget and expense reports. Utilize Parks project and cost-tracking tools via Excel spreadsheets and other database tools as needed.

  • Comply with established Operational Maintenance Branch policies for maintaining accurate records of all projects, repairs, and relevant documentation. Provide supporting documentation for development of Capital Plans (2-year and 6-year), equipment replacement plans, and budget estimates.

  • Provide technical advice and training to Park staff to enhance understanding of mechanical systems and improvements, best practices, safety compliance, and preventative maintenance plans. Assist Parks staff with research/training to obtain or maintain their trade licensure.

Responding applicants must be willing to travel to all KY State Parks to perform job duties. Some overnight travel may be required.

Minimum Requirements

EDUCATION: High school graduate.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Five years of experience in the maintenance or repair of HVAC, refrigeration, ventilation, or electrical systems.

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: Formal training in one of the above or related fields will substitute for the required experience on a year- for-year basis.

Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Experience in one of the above or related fields will substitute for the education on a year-for-year basis.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must be 18 years of age.

Working Conditions

May be required to take care of emergency repairs twenty-four hours a day.

Probationary Period

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
