Ashland has an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Integrity Inspector to join our ISP Technologies, Inc., Ashland, Inc. business based at our Texas City, Texas plant. This is a very visible, significant role within the Company and maintenance and reliability functions. This position will report to the site's maintenance and reliability manager.

The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Overall management of mechanical integrity for fabricated equipment (e.g. piping, vessels, heat exchangers and storage tanks).

  • Provide insight and expertise in the design, specification, inspection, testing, maintenance, operation, and reliability of the fabricated equipment.

  • Evaluate integrity assessment results to determine suitability for continued operation, need for derates or repairs or adjustments to inspection methods and intervals.

  • Consult, troubleshoot, and transfer information in the following technical areas:

  • Suitability for service

  • Support for equipment design, fabrication, installation, repair and alteration

  • Visual inspection and Nondestructive testing

  • Turnaround assistance

  • Corrosion control, monitoring, and prevention

  • Welding and fabrication

  • Failure analysis

  • Direct small crew of inspectors and technicians in performing inspection testing and quality control activities. Procure external inspection and testing services as required.

  • Initiate and track fabricated equipment corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs).

  • Perform in cross-functional roles as required, including but not limited to vendor surveillance, field inspection, and corrosion control.

  • Maintain existing fabricated equipment and incorporate new fabricated equipment into the Inspection Data Management System (IDMS).

  • Establish and maintain fabricated equipment inspection plans.

  • Maintain fabricated equipment PSI and MI records.

  • Maintain facility level mechanical integrity related programs and procedures.

  • Develops proactive job plans for testing and inspections consisting of detailed tasks in proper execution sequence to ensure minimization of process leaks.

  • Participates in routine schedule coordination meetings, daily production meetings and presents updated schedule of workable maintenance inspection and testing jobs if backlogged.

  • Works closely with Storeroom personnel to ensure proper parts are set up and material verification process is followed as appropriate.

  • Ensures work orders are written and tracked for corrective actions generated by inspection activities.

  • Utilize and provide support to the Computerized Maintenance Management System (Maximo) for improving electronic equipment documentation and repair records.

  • Participate in safety and environmental as well as quality initiatives to contribute to compliance of State/Federal regulations to improve existing Company programs.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the department in a safe manner.

In order to be qualified for this role, you must possess the following:

  • Minimum of 10 years of chemical, oil, or gas industry mechanical integrity experience.

  • Minimum of 5 years of chemical manufacturing fabricated equipment integrity field work experience.

  • Working knowledge of ASME Section VIII Division 1, ASME B31.3, API 510, API 570, API 653, ASME PPC-1 and ASME PCC-2.

  • Working knowledge of OSHA 1910.119 PSM.

  • API 510, 570 and 653 Inspector certifications or ability to achieve within one year.

  • Prior experience must include being knowledgeable in chemical process manufacturing, inspection activity planning and supervision, plant safety rules and regulations, Process Safety Management (PSM), environmental compliance standards.

  • High level of mechanical aptitude, be an effective communicator, have strong supervisor skills, possess basic computer competencies, and be capable and willing to work outside of normal hours, weekends, and holidays, as may be required.

  • Ability to respond appropriately during site emergencies as directed by the Site Emergency Manager.

  • Ability to evacuate manufacturing process areas in a timely manner should an emergency arise.

  • Ability to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment if required to work or visit within the manufacturing process area. This may include hard hat, safety glasses, respirators, ear plugs, steel-toed shoes, or other equipment as required by the work performed and location the work is being performed.

  • Capability to lift heavy plant equipment, climb, squat, and move quickly as dictated by a high paced, high-pressured work environment, and be able enter "Confined Spaces" when required.

  • A valid driver's license to drive plant vehicles if necessary.

  • Always demonstrate responsible and ethical behavior.

  • The ability to help the company drive greater value through understanding the business, making complex decisions, and creating the new and different.

The following skill sets are preferred by the business unit:

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline.

  • Mechanical integrity inspection and testing experience as well as current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGPM), quality processes, and emergency response.

  • Prior experience working with employees in a union environment.

  • Prior experience with Maximo and MS Office Suite.

  • Ability to 1) identify critical issues and formulate action plans with all levels of employees including management, and Corporate, 2) develop and foster a positive work environment at all levels, and 3) resolve conflicts through problem resolution skills.
