Position Description

Title: Mechanical Engineering Manager

Department: Engineering

Immediate Supervisor: Director of Engineering

Status: Exempt

Position Purpose

The Mechanical Engineering Manager heads a team of mechanical engineers by guiding and coaching them and developing their skills and knowledge. In this role you will drive the performance and quality of an engineering team to ensure that all executed activities meet the required short-term and long-term business goals. Approach customers with integrity and respect, for long lasting relationships. You will utilize your experience and expertise to solve problems, develop and execute objectives for yourself and the team

Principle Accountabilities

  • Effectively lead a team and give technical direction for assigned organizational responsibilities and ensure on-time project delivery. Provides direction to the team with a focus on safety, on time delivery, quality, and risk identification and mitigation.

  • Provide planning, direction, and coordination for all activities within the engineering team such as design reviews, software reviews, quality audits, system integration, factory, and field collaboration. Ensure compliance initiatives and training requirements are implemented.

  • Promote technical excellence within the team and support groups through design / technical review participation, lessons learned awareness, and technical innovation/growth fostering.

  • Coordinate and drive continuous improvement activities and quality projects. Utilize change management to implement and improve relevant processes, policies, and procedures to improve effectiveness across the engineering team.

  • Consult within the engineering team and with management to determine project milestone completion and to maintain committed delivery dates.

  • Establish and maintain relationships with required external and internal stakeholders to ensure that the customer requirements are understood and being achieved.

  • Effectively communicate technical and financial aspects of project activities vertically and horizontally in the organization.

  • Travel to customer sites as required for project kickoff or troubleshooting.

  • Willingness to travel up to 30%

  • Perform any other duties as assigned.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in Mechanical Engineering or similar.

  • Extensive, (minimum 7 years) demonstrated, management and engineering skills & experience with the ability to drive engineering tasks from inception through to completion.

  • At least 5 years leading technical projects.

  • At least 5 years of machinery experience (packaging preferred)

  • At least 3 years of people management experience required.

  • Proven experience leading and building teams.

  • High energy, strong interpersonal skills including tact, diplomacy, and flexibility to work effectively with senior leadership, staff, and the public.

  • Must possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills to be able to evaluate, interpret information and procedures, understand, and act on and resolve issues with creative problem-solving.

  • Must be able to apply sound judgment and decision-making skills in dealing with a variety of routine issues.

  • Ability to prioritize and manage workload to meet customer demands and deadlines.

  • Excellent communication skills within all levels of the organization.

  • Experience in process improvement and/or project management as it relates to high transaction processes.

  • Knowledge of ERP systems, contact center tools, and standard PC office tools.

  • Technical knowledge of software, electronics and mechanical engineering as related to products and services.

  • Experience in dealing with both technical and non-technical problem-solving.
