Your Impact

We are looking for a Mechanical Engineering Manager to help drive our TASER Conducted Electrical Weapon engineering organization forward. We are looking for an experienced leader with strong knowledge in a number of mechanical engineering disciplines to guide Mechanical Engineers to finding solutions and becoming experts in things that are done nowhere else in the world. The technology you help create will go directly to our law enforcement and public safety professional customers around the world to help them fulfill our shared mission.

Ideally, you would be comfortable in some of these areas: ballistics, explosives, plastic injection molding, metal casting, sheet metal fabrication techniques, adhesives and epoxies, ultrasonic welding, and mechanical simulation.

Your day to day

  • Lead a team of mechanical engineers to meet or exceed product goals

  • Share your expertise to help engineers get to the best solutions

  • Focus the team and individual members on understanding critical tradeoffs

  • Identify areas for improvement in development design processes and testing

  • Provide updates to the broader organization on the status of key initiatives

  • Build relationships across the organization to improve cooperation

  • Verify that the team's solutions are robust and will withstand the test of time

Skills Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering

  • 10+ years of relevant experience in an advanced technology environment

  • Strong communication skills as well as a proven ability to work within team structure as an active participant and drive results through direct and indirect influence and collaboration

  • Great attention to detail, rigor, and thoroughness

  • Proficient with SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD software

Responsibilities for this Position General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Senior Mechanical Engineer for the Tactical Hardware Center of Excellence. This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation's core defense/intelligence services and systems. General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND TASKS: * Performs design and development in such areas as mechanical, thermal, hydraulic, thermodynamic, or heat transfer for production, transmission, measurement, and use of mechanical and/or electromechanical systems, instruments, controls, engines and/or machines * Is a subject matter expert (SME) in at least one discipline/field and possesses working knowledge in multiple adjacent disciplines/fields * Researches and analyzes data, such as customer design proposal, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application * Supports the generation of technical engineering products by using the appropriate requirements management, standards, processes, procedures, and tools throughout the system development life cycle * May supervise or manage lower level employees * Leads technical tasks for small to medium teams or projects * Leads small to medium technical projects * Provides engineering support to manufacturing/operations; leads small technical proposals and contributes to medium sized proposals * Exercises considerable latitude in determining technical objectives of assignments * Contributes to the successful completion of major programs and projects * Frequent contact with senior managers within and outside of Engineering * Frequent contact with various departments across the company including, but not limited to, Program Management, Manufacturing, Quality Assurance * Frequent contact with external customers and vendors * Frequent contact with Business Development * Mentors lower labor grades in mechanical principles and project performance * Conducts feasibility studies and testing on new and modified designs * Creative, innovative responsibilities requiring advanced decision-making skills * Works on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors * Carries out other tasks, not listed, assigned by supervisor * Travel may be required * Security clearance may be required KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES: * Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results * Having wide-ranging experience, uses professional concepts and company objectives to resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways * Strong proficiency and able to perform all responsibilities associated with the position * Grasps and applies new information quickly * Strong ability to handle more complex assignments * Must have strong proficiency with solid modeling CAD tools to create mechanical models and accompanying drawings * Shows initiative on assignments, exercises independent judgment and professionally executes projects with little direction * Strong knowledge with technical standards, manufacturing/fabrication methods, government/industry standards * Prefer strong knowledge of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) tools * Demonstrates strong proficiency in writing technical papers and proposals * Demonstrates history of leading an engineering project and team * Highly skilled in communicating issues, impacts, and corrective actions * Strong ability to clearly recognize and report information relevant to sound mechanical engineering design * Strong understanding of and the ability to apply basic project leadership principles including SPI/CPI, Earned Value, Cost Account Management (CAM), and Statistical Process Controls * Independently determines approach to solutions CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Department of Defense security clearance is not required at time of hire.
