Location Options:

  • Phoenix, AZ

Qualifications:

  • Mechanical Engineering student with an interest in integrated building design.

  • Junior / Senior level student pursuing Advanced Degree.

  • Strong GPA and Student Organization Involvement considered.

  • BIM (Revit) and AutoCAD experience a plus.

Position Responsibilities/Opportunities:

  • Participate with other mechanical engineering team members in design process for various projects.

  • Learn how to apply code requirements for mechanical design.

  • Learn to use primary design tools such as, Trane Trace, REVIT/AutoCAD, Proprietary DLR Group design tools and methods.

  • Actively participate in project and site meetings.

  • Participate in and gain an understanding of construction administration.

The Mechanical Engineering Manager for will be responsible for the Mechanical Design, Packaging, Analysis, Drafting (including layout), and Environmental Testing of Electronics Products. This role is additionally responsible for Configuration Management of design data, including publication of artifacts, and management of engineering changes. The Engineering Manager will be responsible for providing strategic leadership in the areas of mechanical packaging, analysis and tools. * Establish clear strategy for the team and provide leadership in developing best in class processes for mechanical packaging. * Manage all engineering activities within the department including design, development, testing, and configuration management. * Drive sound engineering principles and practice to perform tasks relating to design, analysis, fabrication, modification and evaluation of mechanical assemblies. * Contributes to the development of standard work to improve department efficiency and effectiveness, as well as the creation of design guidelines. * Ensures timely and accurate execution of engineering change orders. * Participates in DFMEA efforts on new product development activities as well as new designs that materialize due to introduction of new products, supplier issues, production issues, other brainstorming sessions and sustaining activities. * Lead new product development tasks, cost reduction projects and sustaining projects in a supportive team environment. * Develop, coach, mentor and manage staff. * Establish goals and objectives and develop measurable metrics to gauge achievement against goals. * Provide expertise and ongoing communication to Engineering, Quality, Product Safety, Product Management, Operations and Business Unit Leadership, in support of Business Unit and Company goals and objectives. * Interface with Collins Communities of Practice and take an active leadership role in developing best practices for mechanical packaging across Collins. * Accountable for budget, staffing, and business results EDUCATION * Bachelor's degree in Engineering * Master's degree in Engineering preferred Basic Qualifications: * 8+ years experience in mechanical design of electronics packaging. * Knowledge of Mechanical design, Structural analysis, and Thermal management. * Demonstrated team leadership skills, able to organize and execute complex tasks, and communicate effectively in formal forums * Project management mindset with process rigor and discipline from previous work experiences. * Excellent oral and written communication skills. Preferred Qualification * Knowledge and experience of product lifecycle management (PLM) systems, e.g. Teamcenter * Knowledge and experience of solid modelling using NX * Experience with electronics test equipment and computer data acquisition. * Ability to create read and understand drawings and production process documentation. * Developed problem solving skills and identification of potential problems to mitigate Nothing matters more to Collins Aerospace than our strong ethical and safety commitments.
