Working at the intersection of hardware, software, and molecular science, Carbon3D is commercializing a fundamental advance in the chemistry of 3D printing that enables massive increases in print speed and improved material properties. We believe our technology will enable commercial customers to go beyond basic prototyping to mass production of 3D printed parts.

As an intern on the mechanical engineering team, you will be working on the cutting-edge of production 3D printer manufacturing. You will work side-by-side with experienced engineers across the organization to scope out and own projects that deliver real value to the company. You will design, prototype, and test novel physical solutions for complex, real-world problems that our customers face. Over the course of the summer, you will develop real-world skills in design, fabrication, and vendor relations that are part of a successful mechanical engineer's toolset.

Our internship program offers a dynamic 10 (consecutive) week opportunity, spanning anytime between Tuesday, May 28 and Friday, August 16, at our Redwood City, California office.

As a valued member of our incoming intern group, you will:

  • Design, test, and prototype mechanical and electro-mechanical systems both for current and future Carbon products.

  • Your scope of work will challenge you to come up with creative solutions that will unblock or make further progress on existing projects.

  • You may also be asked to design, fabricate and program test equipment for the validation of mechanical and electromechanical parts.

  • Additionally, you will work collaboratively with cross-functional partners, external vendors, and suppliers.

Desired Skills:

  • Intentions to graduate between 2025 - 2027 with an undergraduate Mechanical Engineering degree

  • Familiarity with at least one Parametric modeling software product, such as Solidworks or OnShape.

  • Hands-on experience building physical things. Machining experience is appreciated but not required.

  • Basic understanding of design-for-manufacturing principles for milled and lathed parts.

  • Currently pursuing a bachelors or masters in mechanical engineering or a similar field

At Carbon, we look at the person holistically and carefully consider a wide range of factors when determining compensation. The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $38.00 per hour. Your actual salary will be based on your experience, work location, certifications and the unique skills you bring to the role.
