VIEW JOBS 4/5/2019 12:00:00 AM 2019-07-04T00:00 Project Kuiper is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world. This role is for an innovative and dynamic individual to develop the mechanical design of spacecraft battery systems. In this role, you'll develop high reliability battery systems producible in volume at lowest possible cost. This is very much a hands-on role requiring design and detailed mechanical /thermal analysis of all aspects of spacecraft battery packs – all material selections, interconnect designs, connector selections, etc., to deliver a highly optimized module that can be manufactured/assembled/tested with high volume equipment. Responsibilities * Mechanical Design for Spacecraft Battery systems. * Design trades for battery pack integration with vehicle – optimizing for size, weight, assembly, cost. * Develop cell mounting schemes and high reliability interconnect methods. Set up and drive DoE's as needed to down select / verify essential design elements – materials, adhesives, connector selections, etc. * Analyze (classical / FEA) all load conditions (static, dynamic, thermal, fatigue) for compliance. * Develop prototypes for test and performance evaluation against cell specifications, for multiple environments. Set up conditions (internally or with technology partners) to support long term reliability analysis with battery management system algorithms –charging/recharging strategies, cycles, temperature ranges, etc. * Work with manufacturing and automation personnel to ensure cost optimized assembly and test solutions for intended volume production. * Qualification and acceptance testing to verify design. Export Control Requirement: Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
