Smart Wires is currently looking for a full-time Mechanical Engineer based in Raleigh, NC to support our engineering team.

The Position

The job requires a detail-oriented individual who is highly motivated and self-directed. The individual will assume an important role in commercialization of the new products by providing support with DFX, procurements, in-process testing, manufacturing, and EOL activities.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Produce engineering documents including part and assembly drawings, manufacturing instructions, and bill of material
  • Analyze failures reported by Quality and Service departments, and create engineering change orders as required
  • Design components, assemblies, and tooling in support of NPI
  • Analyze and solve technical problems, and provide solutions that can be implemented in a timely manner
  • Perform laboratory and factory tests to verify design functionality and validate performance predicted by simulations

Required Skills and Experience

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering
  • Strong proficiency in using SolidWorks, SolidWorks PDM Vault, and SolidWorks Simulation Package to create design concepts, manage and generate detailed drawings and assemblies, analyze parts, and material
  • Competent in using Agile product lifecycle management (PLM) to manage BoM, ECO, MCO, CARs, work instructions, in-process testing, and reports
  • 5+ years of engineering work experience
  • Strong communications capabilities
  • Experience in test fixture design, procurement and fabrication
  • Good and in-depth knowledge of engineering materials and manufacturing methods, especially aluminum, copper, and composites for fatigue, wear, impact, temperature extremes and corrosion, dielectric insulations for high and low voltages, and aging due to long term exposure to weather

Desired Skills and Experience

  • MS in Mechanical Engineering
  • 5+ years of manufacturing experience
  • Having been involved in commercialization of new products and transition from development to mass manufacturing

Travel Requirements

  • This role has occasional travel requirements to our manufacturing facility in St. Petersburg, FL. Additional details will be provided to candidates invited to the interview process.

Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities: Mechanical engineers research, design, develop, manufacture, and test tools, engines, machines, and other mechanical devices. Mechanical engineering is one of the broadest engineering disciplines. Engineers in this discipline work on power-producing machines such as electric generators, internal combustion engines, and steam and gas turbines. They also work on power-using machines such as refrigeration and air-conditioning equipment, machine tools, material handling systems, elevators and escalators, industrial production equipment, and robots used in manufacturing. Mechanical engineers also design tools that other engineers need for their work. In addition, mechanical engineers work in manufacturing or agriculture production, maintenance, or technical sales; many become administrators or managers. General Duties: * Evaluate the eligibility of disaster-related damages, facilities, work and costs. * Develop Damage Descriptions, Scopes of Work essential to the formulation of disaster recovery grants. * Support production of detailed, organized reports and reviews. * Develop and communicate processes and procedures and methodologies that streamline disaster recovery efforts. * Must be prepared to operate in an intense, dynamic, challenging work environment and be experienced working in a team atmosphere but also able to deliver independently. QUALIFICATIONS The successful candidates will have the necessary experience based upon the positions needed for deployment.
