  • Conduct modeling and simulation activities in support of research studies focused on directed energy weapon systems.

  • Apply an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to plan, design, develop and verify directed energy, sensors and other combat systems through engineering/physics based models.

  • Participate in all phases of advanced concept development to include data gathering and coordination, model development and analysis of simulation results.

  • Participate in implementation of object oriented designs using C++ programming language.

  • Use scripting languages to generate model behaviors not inherent in base framework design.

  • Perform unit and system testing to ensure reliability of system models.

  • Develop and present modeling and simulation implementation plans and work break down structures to stakeholders that describe how advanced concepts are represented in a virtual environment.

  • Build simulation frameworks and ensure the simulation interfaces appropriately with other tools in a distributed environment.

  • Model advanced military concepts, processes, and interactions with the appropriate level of fidelity; document assumptions as required.

  • Build output files to support the study analysis plan and post process data using MATLAB or other software tools.

  • Provide demonstrations of advanced concept system performance to stakeholders and distinguished visitors.


  • Qualifications

  • DoD SECRET or equivalent security clearance at a minimum.

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, physics, mathematics or operations research/systems analysis.

  • Demonstrated experience (5-10 years' minimum) in modeling and simulation and war gaming participation

  • Demonstrated experience (5-10 years' minimum) participating in research activities with a detailed focus on analysis and drawing conclusions.

  • Possess strong problem solving, analytical and debugging skills.


  • Experience with modeling and simulation tools such as Matlab, Simulink, AFSIM or EADSIM is a plus

  • Basic understanding of and experience with directed energy

Experience with distributed mission operations (DMO)

  • Knowledge of object oriented programming
  • TS/SCI eligibility is highly desired

VIEW JOBS 3/20/2019 12:00:00 AM 2019-06-18T00:00 What Your Job Will Be Like We are seeking a highly motivated R&D S&E, Mechanical Engineer to join our dynamic team On any given day, you may be called on to: * Contribute to engineered design and CAD modeling of detailed components or full-system integrated assemblies for nuclear weapons or other customers. * Provide mechanical design engineering services using Computer Aided Design (CAD) software, such as Pro/Engineer and other 3D modeling tools, to mathematically represent the physical attributes of the product. * Use engineering principles to research, design, or develop structures, instruments, machines, experiments, processes, systems, theories, or technologies. * Use analytical tools to predict product performance under operating conditions. * Apply technical judgment based upon engineering principles in the design and development of innovative products for supporting our Nation's security programs. * Partner with Product Realizations Teams (PRTs) to produce high quality design models and engineering drawings of systems, components and layouts including assembly and piece part definition using Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T). * Determine the physical characteristics of the product to be manufactured, including geometric form, interface features, manufacturing specifications, processes, and assembly instructions. * Ensure design feasibility from a manufacturing and product maintenance perspective. We use state-of-the-art engineering modeling and simulation tools to develop design solutions, to perform advanced thermal and structural analysis, and to assist senior analysts with creating analysis models for high performance computing. The engineers on our team use commercial modeling & simulation tools, such as Creo, Patran, and Nastran, and an array of Sandia software tools, such as Cubit and Sierra codes, to complete their work.
