Position Summary

Mechanical Engineer

At Purple, a successful Mechanical Engineer will be a team player, able to manage detailed and time-consuming analysis of both structural components as well as manufacturing/process data. The Mechanical Engineer will be the primary lead responsible for all technical aspects of tooling and equipment based projects and actively collaborate with Project Management and Fabrication to complete Engineering Projects. The Mechanical Engineer will become intimately familiar with all Purple manufacturing processes and be able to make decisions on how to best improve those processes for the benefit of the entire company.

The Mechanical Engineer will report to the Engineering Manager

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead engineering projects tracking tasks, schedules, deadlines and costs associated with their project. Be the technical expert on all related equipment and data

  • Provide technical and analytical support to the various internal teams and customers

  • Provide Process Engineering support for the various Production areas. Learn and implement appropriate Lean, Theory of Constraints and Six Sigma principles

  • Promote an environment of engineering rigor, discipline, informed decision making and enthusiastic problem solving

  • Create specifications for testing, mechanical analysis, cost/benefit analysis, drafting etc.. as needed

  • Assist Production in troubleshooting problems and producing work instructions as needed

Knowledge, Skill and Abilities;

  • Ability to work in a team environment and communicate well with personnel from multiple departments and disciplines

  • Strong understanding of statistical data analysis as well as the ability to differentiate good data from bad data

  • Ability to read mechanical and electrical drawings/schematics, material specifications and equipment operating instructions.

  • Strong computer skills (Excel, et al.)

  • Ability to work in a high pressure dynamic environment, prone to rapid shifts

Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering

  • SolidWorks Modeling and Drafting

Location

  • Will be required to work regularly from both the Alpine and Grantsville locations

  • Will periodically need to work solely from the Grantsville location as projects schedules demand

Position Summary Material Processing Engineer Purple is looking for a Material Processing Engineer! A successful candidate will be able to demonstrate understanding of material rheology in an injection molding environment as well as machine design capabilities. The Material Processing Engineer must be able to promote teamwork and work in a dynamic team-oriented environment. The Material Processing Engineer will have the technical ability to eliminate problems thru effective root cause analysis and robust equipment design. The Material Processing Engineer should have a solid grasp on industry standards for IMM operations and maintenance. Primary Duties and Responsibilities: * Lead efforts to improve the design and performance of in-house injection molding equipment * Provide material and chemical analysis for injection molding materials and recipes * Develop Value Stream Maps and Process Flow Diagrams for the extrusion process * Develop Process Directives and other associated standards including SOP's and SWs * Assist in troubleshooting failures or performance issues and determining the root cause of problems * Provide technical information and support to the various internal teams and customers * Promote and facilitate introduction of new or alternative approaches, methods or equipment to more effectively produce our products * Create and manage project budgets, timelines and task lists Knowledge, Skill and Abilities: * Strong understanding of material science and rheology * Prior experience with polymer flows and handling characteristics * Intimately familiar with how IMM systems work * Mechanical aptitude with the ability to read blueprints/schematics and understand manufacturing equipment * Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, including the ability to express ideas concisely and clearly, cross-functionally and at all levels within the company. * Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills with the ability to train as well as lead. Someone with a proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships at all levels. * Strong computer skills; Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and SolidWorks, including FEA * Responsiveness to internal and external customer requirements. * Ability to work under pressure in a dynamic environment.
