Position Summary

This position requires a working knowledge of Mechanical Engineering skills on large construction distribution projects Responsibilities include review of both plans and onsite work. Be able to independently apply advanced engineering techniques and analysis within the discipline. Develops designs that require innovation and ingenuity. Work performed with minimal supervision; has considerable latitude in determining objectives and approaches to assignments.

  • Reinforces the client-contractor relationship; acts as project manager liaison

  • Coordinate and monitor on-going field testing of MEP systems

  • Conduct necessary Field Investigations, provide Field Inspections, prepare concise and distribute timely associated Reports

  • Understand Contract Documents including Drawings, Specifications and Contracts and provide technical assistance and recommendations for action

  • Interprets specifications as related to materials and workmanship

  • Report field conditions that are non-conforming to original design

  • Provide Schedule review and monitoring including suggestions for changes

  • Observe performance of work activities on the project and document activities, work accomplishments and events

  • Observe safety conditions and maintain a constant vigilance to correct safety infractions

  • Recommend rejection of defective material and workmanship

  • Monitor and document compliance with project permit conditions, environmental issues and water discharge requirements

  • Witness and document the contractor's quality control activities including inspections and testing

  • BS or MS Degree in Mechanical Engineering required

  • Registered License Professional Engineer (PE) in California required

  • 8 years of experience in Mechanical Engineering working in construction, gas distribution projects.

  • Experience working directly with the Owner/Client and General Contractor preferred

Position Summary The Senior FEA Engineer is expected to be a self-directed and experienced engineering consultant who is capable of independently leading projects and programs for our internal clients. This position will be responsible to provide high end engineering, finite element modeling (FEA) and analysis services and expertise across multiple disciplines to various company organizations to identify, diagnose and solve technical problems for dynamic systems. Proficiency in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) is desired to compliment FEA analyses with fluid-structure interactions. Lastly, the Senior FEA Engineer will conduct testing, inspections, failure analysis, performance assessments, and evaluations on a wide variety of systems and components. Job Responsibilities * Develops CAD models, from drawings or laser scans, of mechanical assemblies and/or structures and converts them into finite element models. * Performs finite element analysis (FEA) to analyze for static, transient and dynamic loads on power plant systems and electric/gas transmission/distribution systems. Analyzes the systems for stress and fatigue acceptance per industry standards such as ASME and API. * Performs elastic and elastic-plastic failure analyses of asset due to structural transient loads, dynamic impacts, vibration, aging and other forms of degradation. This includes performing fracture mechanics modeling of cracks and pitting corrosion for fitness-for-service evaluations. * Performs computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis of electric and gas transmission and distribution systems. Exports CFD results to perform fluid-structure interaction FEA. * Develops, prepares and presents findings, conclusions and recommendations to senior leadership using a broader perspective, knowledge of the business and understanding of longer-term implications to the client. * Exercises independent judgment in leading teams on the most complex projects with the high financial impact to PG&E and/or the client. * Identifies new technologies, innovations and cost-reduction opportunities. Conceives and investigates new areas; contributes new designs and techniques regarded as major advances in PG&E or industry. * Interfaces with clients to understand expectations, concerns and ensure strong customer satisfaction. * Leads project teams in the performance of tests and the preparation of technical reports and specifications. Prepares and delivers presentations and recommendations based on project results/findings, advice and expertise, frequently to senior leadership. * Leads projects, determining scope, schedule, budget and preparing and presenting client bid proposals. * Provides leadership and expertise in developing new standards, codes, guidelines, polices, techniques, and procedures. Uses a broad business understanding to solve the most complex problems in creative ways, ensuring solutions consider both short and long term business impact. * Provides leadership and training to all peer levels. * Represents PG&E and provides testimony or information related to projects or other issues to external customers, agencies or other parties.
