Location:

  • Seattle, WA

Qualifications:

  • Mechanical Engineering student with an interest in integrated building design.

  • Junior / Senior level student pursuing Advanced Degree.

  • Strong GPA and Student Organization Involvement considered.

  • BIM (Revit) and AutoCAD experience a plus.

Position Responsibilities/Opportunities:

  • Participate with other mechanical engineering team members in design process for various projects.

  • Learn how to apply code requirements for mechanical design.

  • Learn to use primary design tools such as, Trane Trace, REVIT/AutoCAD, Proprietary DLR Group design tools and methods.

  • Actively participate in project and site meetings.

  • Participate in and gain an understanding of construction administration.

(Build, Learn, Understand, Enrich) summer internship program is purposefully designed to be an authentic reflection of what it means to be an integral part of McKinstry. You can learn more about our internship program here. What we look for in our Design Engineer Interns: * Must be pursuing or have a degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. Sophomore student standing or higher required. * Availability in Summer 2020 (May/June start until August/September depending on school); part-time availability after Summer preferred * Excellent written and verbal communication skills. * Must be detail-oriented, well organized, and possess excellent follow-up skills. * Must be self-motivated, able to multi‐task and work independently. * Ability or aptitude to read and interpret construction plans, specs, contracts, proposals, estimates and other regularly encountered items. * Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Visio required; working knowledge of SharePoint and MS Project preferred. * CAD experience through AutoCAD MEP or Revit preferred. * Must be 18 years of age or older What are our Design Interns responsible for: * Assisting in design and engineering tasks on New Construction projects related to mechanical and plumbing systems. * Demonstrating an understanding of basic engineering concepts related to heat transfer, fluid flow and thermodynamics. * Performing sustainability activities including water efficiency calculations, fixture selection, carbon calculation standards, researching and assembling LEED information. * Supporting sustainable construction projects. * Performing sizing, layout, and coordination of ductwork and HVAC piping for new and relocated scope. * Researching codes for inspection requirements. * Assisting in building envelope calculations, heating and cooling load calculations, fan static pressure and pump head calculations. * Leveraging building information modeling concepts and practices when using BIM as a design platform. * Generating accurate load calculations for various projects. * Other duties as assigned.
