Crane Aerospace & Electronics is seeking a Mechanical Engineer III - Power Electronics Packaging Specialist to support our Modular Power solutions. Qualified applicant must be up to challenges of effective mechanical designs, analysis, and demanding schedules.
This position is key to the Research & Technology Team within Modular Power Engineering in Lynnwood, WA.
The Senior Mechanical Engineer will add expertise to address technical challenges for cost effective high-density packaging of Modular Power components and subsystems, including DC/DC power conversion and line conditioning filters. Packaging solutions includes hybrid chip-and-wire technology in a hermetically sealed header as well as traditional printed circuit board products.
Technical challenges where expertise/experience is highly desired:
Thermal management for high power density
Thermal cycling & low cycle fatigue for SMT electronics
Accelerated life testing (HALT/HASS)
Structural Analysis of electronic assembly and end item
The Mechanical Engineer is a top contributor who needs little to no supervision and uses originality, ingenuity and experience to perform engineering duties in researching, planning, designing, and developing products for use in the Aerospace or Electronics marketplace. The Senior Mechanical Engineer works within a collaborative Integrated Product Team (IPT) environment while responsible for multiple independent tasks
Duties & Responsibilities:
Deliver integrated Modular Power mechanical designs, from initial concept to production
Analyze design requirements and objectives, define optimum design criteria and approach, design component or system elements
Direct development testing on new or modified designs
Mentor and lead other engineers in the area of expertise
Plan, estimate, prioritize, and manage work activities to support meeting project schedules and budgets. Utilize experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
Generate and review product development documentation, including proposals, technical reports, procedures, correspondence, etc. necessary to satisfy customer and program requirements.
Self-directed and motivated while working and communicating effectively within a team environment that consists of several engineering, operations, quality, and business disciplines.
Generate models and conduct analyses in compliance with customer requirements and appropriate agencies.
Perform design experiments and evaluate test results to validate analysis.
Work with manufacturing team on Design for Manufacturing
Five (5) or more years of experience in power electronics packaging
Finite Element Analysis background to determine thermal and mechanical performance
Work experience in highly reliable space and MIL-STD products a plus
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge of Mechanical Engineering Principles, including mechanics of materials, shock, vibration, heat transfer, and dimensional tolerance analysis
Desired proficiency with mechanical 3D modeling software Autodesk Inventor (or similar), and familiarity with Finite Element Analysis software

Manufacturing operations may require the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to: eye safety glasses, gowning, masks, hearing protectors, heel/wrist straps and any other required PPE
May be exposed to unusual environmental conditions such as loud noises, cold temperatures, confined spaces, dust or fumes
Requires work with small to medium size hand and power tools
Occasional travel to customer and outside test lab facilities for technical interchange meetings, design reviews, product testing support, and to attend technical seminars
May need to travel domestically and internationally (up to 10%)
