With award-winning technology engineered for uninterrupted work between autonomous mobile robots, labor, and systems, we make business go. As a company, we are driven by the same collective vision: an uninterrupted and highly efficient global supply chain where robots do the dirty work and people do the human work. With more than 5 million traditional forklifts moving over 5 billion pallets around the world, there is a ton of work to do to make that vision a reality.

Working cross-functionally, the Mechanical Engineer II will design and build custom components, actuators, and sensing methods across many products and research areas. Additionally, this role will participate in the enhancement of quality, reliability, and documentation of our existing product offerings, focusing on sustainment activities and continuous improvement initiatives.

The ideal candidate has mastery of both electro-mechanical systems and hydraulic systems, strong problem-solving skills, creativity, and enthusiasm for new ideas.

To be considered for the Mechanical Engineer II role, please submit a portfolio of machines designed and built that show novel design skills in the areas of actuation, sensing, and structural design.

Reporting to the Mechanical Engineering Team Manager, this is a fulltime, salaried role based in Waltham, MA. Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa at this time.

In this role, the Mechanical Engineer II will:

  • Utilize expertise towards elevating product quality and reliability, actively engaging in activities to refine and optimize our current solutions.

  • Drive improvements in documentation practices, ensuring comprehensive and accurate records that support ongoing product maintenance and enhancement efforts.

  • Apply rigorous engineering testing and qualitative analysis procedures to deepen design knowledge and ensure the reliability and performance of complex systems.

  • Take ownership of entire sub-systems, ensuring all components function as intended within the broader product ecosystem.

  • Decompose complex challenges into actionable tasks, prioritizing effectively to meet project timelines and objectives.

  • Provide constructive design feedback and critical analysis to drive continuous improvement within the team.

  • Engage in cross-functional collaboration, particularly with electrical and software engineering teams, to integrate mechanical solutions seamlessly into overall product designs.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally to explore and evaluate next-generation technologies and innovations, contributing insights and expertise to inform the company's strategic direction and future product development initiatives.

What we are looking for:

  • Bachelors in mechanical engineering or relevant engineering degree, Masters preferred

  • Minimum of 2 years of professional experience with a passion for sustainment activities and enhancing product quality and reliability

  • Hands-on design experience with articulated electro-mechanical systems

  • Proficient in SolidWorks (or equivalent) modeling, tolerance stack analysis, engineering drawing creation, and GD&T

  • Demonstrated ability to take a complex product from concept through production

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Experience designing for mass production, which may include experience in any of the following: machining, welding, casting, molding, or 3D printing

  • Preferred qualifications:

  • Design experience with hydraulic systems

  • Experience with analytical and empirical analysis of heat transfer

  • Experience with CE and UL certification of complex electro-mechanical systems

  • Experience with FEA simulations

  • Working knowledge of relevant safety standards for autonomous vehicles and robotic manipulation systems

We are an equal opportunity employer. We encourage and celebrate diversity.
