Mechanical Engineer I:

The Mechanical Engineer I is responsible for assisting and supporting the activities associated with the development of building energy conservation projects. Our ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Architectural Engineering with an interest in building mechanical or electrical systems. The ideal candidate will also demonstrate success in the following skills and abilities:

Skills and abilities:

  • Professional designation as an Engineer in Training (EIT) is preferred.

  • Exposure to mechanical and electrical systems in commercial and institutional facilities is preferred.

  • Ability to apply innovative approaches to solve problems.

  • Be fully capable of working in design teams to assist in meeting the project goals in a team-focused environment.

  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as interpersonal skills. Demonstrates the ability to communicate ideas and concepts in both written and oral form.

  • Exposure to high-performance buildings and energy conservation is a plus.

  • Exposure to building automation and HVAC controls systems is a plus.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Participate in performing on-site commercial and industrial facility energy audits.

  • Assist team in identifying and developing energy and water cost reduction solutions for existing buildings.

  • Perform energy modeling and building simulations using dedicated energy modeling software packages, i.e., eQUEST.

  • Calculate projected energy and utility-cost savings.

  • Perform design of building mechanical, electrical and alternative energy systems upgrades.

  • Perform project cost estimates.

  • Prepare energy assessment reports based on analytic findings which include detailed equipment specifications and cost savings analysis.

  • Develop excel-based software tools to support energy and financial analysis.

  • Candidate must be proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel. Experience with AutoCAD, eQUEST and Microsoft Excel Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) are preferred.

Performing preliminary and detailed level dynamics/stress design and analysis of aerospace electronic components, spacecraft structures, and test fixturing using standardized processes and tools. Providing stress/dynamics technical memos and input to data packages to support peer and customer reviews. Presenting resultant stress/dynamics design and analysis data to product team, customer technical representatives, and PMO at technical interchange meetings and design reviews. Contributing to the technical content of engineering documentation, the creation and coordination of stress/dynamics output to satisfy multi-disciplinary interdependencies, and executing all technical activities to meet the cost and schedule commitments of each program/task. Creating static and dynamic test plans. Providing technical direction to environmental test personnel and interpretation/correlation of static and dynamic test results. Understanding and incorporating other applicable mechanical (design, thermal, materials, etc.) and system level requirements/parameters into the stress and dynamics analyses. Developing weight-optimized, compliant flightworthy components and structural assemblies which satisfy the contractual design criteria as well as any producibility requirements defined by Manufacturing and Quality. Contributing to process improvement initiatives and applicable command media. Representing the organization directly with customers and suppliers. Bachelors degree from an accredited college in a related discipline, or equivalent experience/combined education, with 5 years of professional experience; or 3 years of professional experience with a related Masters degree. Considered career, or journey, level. Basic Qualifications High proficiency (at least 3 years of directly applicable experience) with NASTRAN static and dynamic solutions, NX FEM/FEA software and the interaction between the two; Microsoft Office (Excel, WORD, PowerPoint). High Proficiency with mechanism & multibody dynamics (multibody separation/tip off & deployment kinematics) with both rigid and flex body dynamics. Proficiency with vibration analysis (Sine & Random). Primary and Secondary structural analysis knowledge of Metallic and Laminate Composites. High proficiency with the application of closed form structural analysis (Roark's, Bruhn, Petersons, Shigley's, Bickford). Proficiency with Fatigue and Fracture Analysis. Proficiency with interpreting complex engineering drawings and the proper application of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing. Experience (minimum 1 year) with spacecraft static / dynamic / acoustic testing, including test procedure development, instrumentation definition, test direction and post-test model correlation. Ability to work closely with engineering functional and program management, and with other Stress and Dynamics leaders. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including demonstrated ability for technical mentoring and working efficiently in a team.
