Job Overview:

We are seeking a Fluids Mechanical Engineer to join our innovative team. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, analyzing, and optimizing fluid power systems, including pneumatic and hydraulic systems, valves, and pumps, to support the development of our autonomous surface vessels (ASVs) and related technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Design and analyze fluid power systems, including pneumatic and hydraulic systems, to meet performance, efficiency, and reliability requirements for ASV applications.

  • Develop specifications, schematics, and technical drawings for fluid power components and systems, incorporating design considerations for valves, pumps, actuators, and control systems.

  • Conduct fluid dynamics simulations and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analyses to optimize fluid flow, pressure, and temperature within hydraulic and pneumatic systems.

  • Select and specify components and materials for fluid power systems, including valves, pumps, hoses, and fittings, based on performance requirements, operating conditions, and regulatory standards.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, and software developers, to integrate fluid power systems into overall ASV designs and ensure compatibility with other subsystems.

  • Perform testing and validation of fluid power systems, including functional testing, performance testing, and failure mode analysis, to verify compliance with design specifications and performance objectives.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to fluid power systems during development, testing, and field deployment, working closely with engineering and operations teams to implement effective solutions.

Qualifications

  • Proven work experience as a Mechanical Engineer specializing in fluid dynamics, fluid power, or related field.

  • Strong knowledge of fluid mechanics principles, including fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, and heat transfer, as applied to pneumatic and hydraulic systems.

  • Proficiency in dynamics simulation software such as ANSYS, StarCCM, SOLIDWORKS Flow, or similar tools.

  • Experience in the design for, presence of, corrosion and analytic prediction of future effects.

  • Experience in the design, analysis, and optimization of pneumatic and hydraulic systems, including selection and specification of valves, pumps, actuators, and control components.

  • Proficiency in fluid dynamics simulation software such as ANSYS Fluent, COMSOL Multiphysics, or similar tools.

  • Familiarity with industry standards and regulations governing fluid power systems, including ISO, ASME, and NFPA standards.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to analyze complex fluid power system issues and develop effective solutions.

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.

  • A bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field is required; advanced degree preferred.
