Job Description Summary

The Mechanical Engineer

  • Fluid Systems function is to ensure proper sizing, specification, and selection of auxiliary fluid systems (e.g., dry gas sealing systems, lube oil systems, sealing steam systems) and major components for Ebara Elliott Energy (EEE) rotating equipment packages. The Mechanical Engineer

  • Fluid Systems is also responsible for adherence to project schedules, effective time management, and communication internally with other EEE departments and externally with suppliers and customers.

Job Description

  • The Mechanical Engineer
  • Fluid Systems functions as the primary resource for engineered-to-order auxiliary fluid systems (e.g., dry gas sealing systems, lube oil systems, sealing steam systems) packaged with Ebara Elliott Energy (EEE) manufactured rotating equipment.
  • Core responsibilities include fluid system engineering calculations, sizing & selection of major components, purchase order risk release evaluation to maintain delivery schedules, and reviewing and interpreting customer specifications and technical requirements for the requisitioning or purchased auxiliary fluid systems.

  • Daily activities and tasks will include acting as the primary technical contact for sub-supplier auxiliary fluid systems throughout project execution, collecting and analyzing detailed technical information and effectively communicating that information regarding the assigned projects to the appropriate members within the organization and project teams.

  • The position requires the Mechanical Engineer

  • Fluid Systems to demonstrate a high level of leadership and ability to make independent decisions on a regular basis.
  • The nature of the job is designed to further build upon the foundation of knowledge gained on the job or other previous equivalent work experience. Training for the position will focus on self-development of specialization in technical areas related to the engineering design of auxiliary fluid systems.

  • Responding to new or unfamiliar, complex situations is a common experience; however, guidance and direction from other engineers will be available when required. This position will include direct supplier and customer contact.

  • The individual will be encouraged to develop their individual and team contribution to the Project Engineering, New Apparatus department goals, to the extent that activities covered by established policies or standard procedures are successfully managed.

  • Additional work hours or temporary schedule adjustment may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Core technical responsibilities will include:

  • Auxiliary fluid system engineering calculations

  • Sizing & selection of major components (typical long lead items driving supplier delivery)

  • Long lead item purchase order placement risk release evaluation to maintain delivery schedules

  • Creation of technical requisitions for auxiliary fluid systems

  • Assists Packaging Core Engineering team with driving improvements in Application Engineering Phase

  • Develop project-specific auxiliary fluid systems control narratives and alarm & trip lists.

  • Dry gas sealing system vent studies

  • System studies for re-rates/modifications to equipment in the field (both Elliott and Non-Elliott equipment)

  • Actively participate in Project Transfer Meetings (TM1-TM3), manage transfer of project technical information from the Proposal stage to the Execution stage.

  • Actively participate in key project meetings when required, including Kick Off Meeting (KOM), HAZOP meeting, Customer Coordination Meeting (CCM), Pre-Inspection Meeting (PIM), and Design Review Meetings (DRM).

  • Facilitate major supplier meetings when required, including Supplier Coordination Meeting (SCM), Pre-Inspection Meeting (PIM), and Design Review Meetings (DRM), with the assistance and support of the Project Team.

  • Correspondence, documents, and information to be submitted to the customer for approval or record, through the Project Engineering Coordinator.

  • Review and analysis of customer specifications.

  • Review, revision, and submittal of supplier design specification information to the Project Team, ensuring that these documents/drawings meet the scope of supply dictated by the customer's purchase order.

  • Keeping the Project Team and Project Engineering, New Apparatus Management properly informed of the project status in a timely and accurate manner of issues regarding any assigned project components.

  • Follow Project Engineering, New Apparatus departmental standards, procedures and processes to achieve department goals and provide Project Engineering, New Apparatus Management with inputs on methods to improve and update process work standards.

  • Actively participate and drive programs focused on continuous improvement initiatives as needed/requested by Project Engineering, New Apparatus Management.

  • Develop technical and commercial competence, encourage personal development and career growth by creating individualized career plan and set goals with the direction of Project Engineering, New Apparatus Management.

  • Functions as a technical expert on dry gas sealing systems in order to support the Project Team and additional Elliott business units, such as Sales and Applications, Global Manufacturing, and Global Service.

  • Autonomous decision-making capability is required. The position requires balanced and thoughtful independent action with regards to customer specifications.

  • Maintain an environment for professional and ethical conduct within the Project Engineering, New Apparatus department, as directed by Elliott corporate policies and Elliott Code of Ethics.

  • Promote a positive attitude for a safe and healthy work environment, as well as awareness for high quality products and services from the Project Engineering, New Apparatus department in support of Elliott management initiatives.

Educational Requirements:

Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or other relevant disciplines. Mechanical Engineering preferred.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of two (2) years total fluid systems engineering experience, with preference to relatable experience within the petroleum, petrochemical and/or turbomachinery field.

  • Experience with HYSYS, AVEVA, or equivalent simulation softwares is preferred.

  • Basic understanding of Process & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).

  • Basic understanding of fluid dynamics, thermophysical properties of gases, and control valve sizing.

  • Demonstrated ability to provide quality customer service and support.

  • Exhibits desire for continuous education, training, and knowledge sharing.

  • Possesses good basic work habits, promptness, and dependability.

  • Self-directed worker, with exemplary work ethic.

  • Disciplined, able to follow directions and procedures.

  • Maintains a professional and business like behavior.

  • Above average communications skills, verbal and written, with a demonstrated ability to interface across different cultural lines.

  • Ability to travel 10%, domestic and international travel may be required and could include weekend accommodations.

  • Excellent computer skills regarding Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe.

  • Able to operate proficiently with Elliott Business Systems, Project Management (PM), and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems.

  • Ability to learn quickly and adapt to a dynamic work environment.

  • Developed time management skills, with an ability to balance demand among various projects.
