The successful candidate will be an essential part of the Hydro & Mechanical Solutions group with engineering and field support responsibilities for Turbine Mechanical solutions mainly in the North American power industry.

AS AN ASSOCIATE ENGINEER, YOU WILL:

  • Develop and interpret mechanical installation drawings which include dimensional fits, tolerances, welding, and equipment assembly procedures

  • Create 3D models and assemblies using software packages such as Inventor and Pro-Engineer. Create 2D drawings using design packages such as AutoCAD

  • Capture 3D point cloud data using CMM equipment such as Faro Quantum or Focus M70. Perform post processing of 3D point cloud data to be used for design engineering functions.

  • Capable of selecting and sizing of hydraulic components such as valves, cylinders, servos, pumps, logic valves, etc.

  • Demonstrate the ability to understand and follow a set of mechanical and electrical installation, calibration and testing instructions

  • Capable of inspecting and testing fabricated, machined, and hydraulic/pneumatic equipment

  • Provide technical direction to craft labor at industrial sites

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:

  • The position requires a four-year engineering degree (mechanical preferred) or the equivalent. This is an entry level position. Job experience and military service will be considered

  • Must be able to interface with our customers and influence customer relationships in a positive manner

  • Must have above average mechanical aptitude, problem solving skills, and creative design

  • Must have strong organizational, teamwork, and detailed note taking skills

  • Ability to work in high stress environments

  • The position requires 30% travel

PREFEREED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:

  • On the job training will happen, we are looking for you to have strong, hands-on experience from an internship, cooperative education experience (CO-OP), or a project-based academic assignment lasting at least six months. Building on a validated blend of education and experience is a shown success plan.

Facebook Reality Labs Research is looking for an exceptional Mechanical Engineer to help create state-of-the-art Face-Tracking and Body-Tracking capture systems to revolutionize photorealistic telepresence in virtual reality, thus enabling the ability to interact with anyone, anytime, anywhere. We have made some important advances, but it will take a team with a wide spectrum of skills to fully realize this goal. As a Mechanical Engineer at FRL, you will develop state-of-the-art prototype systems, mechanisms, and solutions for next generation motion capture systems. You will become part of a team exploring new concepts through analytical modeling and fast iterative prototyping. A wide range of approaches will be explored combining electrical, mechanical, optical, firmware, and software techniques. We want people who work well in teams; can brainstorm big ideas; work in new technology areas; able to drive a concept into a prototype; and can envision how a prototype could transition into a ruggedized system. Starting with a broad scientific background, be willing to become a quick expert in a new area, and quickly build new prototypes using novel materials and/or by integrating structures in new ways leveraging a strong mechanical background. We are looking for a hands-on builder of opto-mechanical systems that can deal with sub-micron tolerances. Mechanical Engineer Responsibilities * Spearhead mechanical design, integration, testing, and documentation of capture systems that include components such as cameras, audio, lighting, and capture electronics * Design, build and test of rapid prototypes which integrate electrical, mechanical and software components * Transition prototypes into production level systems * Collaborate with researchers and other engineers across multiple disciplines to discuss, develop and optimize designs for systems * Support research and exploration of new sensors and sub-systems to deliver the next generation of capture systems Minimum Qualifications * Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience * Experience in NX or SolidWorks including Teamcenter/PDM * Knowledge of manufacturing techniques (machining, 3D printing, sheet metal, injection molding, etc.) * Experience in working with cross-functional teams including Engineering, Product Design, Research, etc. * Experience designing for the mechanical constraints of PCBs, FPCs, etc. * Experience working with third party vendors to develop system components and drive requirements Preferred Qualifications * M.S. or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or related field * 5+ years of experience * Experience in user comfort considerations for wearable products * Experience in FEA and thermal analysis * Familiarity with digital cameras, including CMOS image sensors and lens integration * Experience in mechanical design and integration of electrical subcomponents (preferably in a consumer product context) Locations About the Facebook company Facebook's mission is to give people the power to build community and bring the world closer together.
