POSITION TITLE: Mechanical Engineer

REPORTS TO: Director of Engineering

LOCATION: Jonesboro, AR

DEPARTMENT: Engineering

POSITION TYPE: Regular Full-time

FLSA STATUS: Exempt

This Position Description identifies the major responsibilities of this job for FMH Conveyors ("Company"). It does not include all aspects of the position such as the potential additional duties assigned by the Director of Engineering or other Company management.

POSITION SUMMARY:

This person will primarily perform mechanical engineering and design functions related to flexible and non-flexi, powered flexible, rigid telescopic, and gravity roller flexible conveyors, as well as other related conveyor products as assigned. The position will also ideally involve limited electrical engineering work. The person will perform a variety of engineering and design functions associated with the conveyor related products the Company designs, manufactures, sells and supports (sales, service, etc.). These functions will include, but not be limited to: design of the conveyors, components and sub-components; interfacing with and working with other Engineers for assignments as well as CADD Designers / Modelers; checking drawings; working within the ERP system, including engineering configuration and developing or checking BOM's and MOM's; configuring products to customer specifications; assisting with R&D projects; and other engineering work associated with the Company's products as assigned.

  • ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work in a team environment and provide work instructions, address questions and help manage the drawings and 3-D models being developed by 3-D CADD modelers in the Engineering Department to ensure they are accurately completed

  • Develop or modify existing BOM's and MOM's in the ERP system for all conveyors and related conveyor equipment

  • Develop special conveyor systems and related conveyor equipment utilizing standard and newly developed components based on customer specifications

  • Ideally be capable of developing electrical schematics for power and controls for the Company's products

  • Troubleshoot problems pertaining to the Company's engineered products

  • Perform structural and other analyses for conveyors and components, including deflection and stability calculations

  • Work with Autodesk Inventor 3-D modelling software, including various modules including FEA and 3-D animation; as well as 2-D drawings in AutoCAD or other CADD software

  • Calculate data required to produce component parts from raw materials by specifying needed material requirements

  • Confers with various associates and customers as needed to determine proper performance specifications and ensure the intended product design is provided to the customer

  • Travel to customer's sites as requested to evaluate product installations and ensure customer satisfaction

  • Be willing to engage with the engineering team or other associates in the company to evaluate and work toward improving existing approaches, methods and performance measures

  • Understand Lean manufacturing and participate with the engineering and manufacturing teams to improve or implement Lean processes that result in reductions in manufacturing scrap rates, costs and labor through the use of Lean tools and methodology

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION: Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree (B.S.) in Mechanical Engineering is required from ABET Accredited Engineering College or University

EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 5 years' experience (10+ preferred) in engineering and design of manufactured equipment, systems or materials and within a

manufacturing environment with demonstrated success in developing accurate engineering work product, including detailed drawings, working in ERP systems and

strong 3-D CADD experience

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations with the ability to write reports, business

correspondence and procedure manuals

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists

  • Experience and/or willingness to frequently work on the shop floor to ensure BOM and MOM configuration accuracy

  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form

  • Ability to read, understand and implement various industry codes and regulations, including but not limited to NEC, ANSI, NIOSH, and OSHA

  • Candidate must have effective and collaborative problem solving skills

  • Good knowledge and understanding of assembly, electrical, welding, fabrication, paint, machine shop and production processes

  • Computer skills; Excellent MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) is essential

  • Skilled with 3-D CADD modeling (Inventor preferred) or SolidWorks and 2-D CADD (AutoCAD)

  • Experienced User/Super User of ERP/MRP systems

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Required to sit and stand for extended periods of time; occasionally climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Project Engineer will plan and establish the criteria, details, and implementation, for which project success can be measured. The Project Engineer is responsible for directing, coordinating, and exercising the functional authority for planning, integration and completion of project work in various manufacturing areas of responsibilities. The Project Engineer will provide leadership, assign roles and responsibilities, and direction to project teams during project execution. This position will support new product growth, and internal improvements supporting business direction. This position will work closely with the Principle process engineering team for alignment of manufacturing processes, process standardization, and overall engineering alignment. The Project Engineer position may also be responsible or partially responsible for various compliance programs such as environmental compliance, safety, product safety or other programs for the facility.</p><p>This position interacts with Research &amp; Development, Quality Systems, Quality Laboratory and Quality Assurance, Engineering, Production, Warehouse, Converting, Packaging, Maintenance, Regulatory and all Supervision and Management in our New York, Arkansas, Indiana and European facilities.</p><p><br></p><p>ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES</p><p>1. Ensure compliance with ISO 9000:2000 and cGMP’s </p><p>2. Basic understanding and utilization of lean and six sigma methodologies. </p><p>3. Develop, document, and lead project objectives, scope, project proposal, plans, and teams.</p><p>4. Identifies project roles and responsibilities by determining the phases and elements of the project. </p><p>5. Prepares and distributes a description/charter and regularly updated timeline of the project. </p><p>6. Reviews contractor bids; interviews and assigns personnel to specific phases and elements of the project. Is responsible for the capital and expense spending execution against the budgeted amounts for individual projects.</p><p>7. Maintains project coordination of meetings and other forms of communication, to oversee and coordinate the technical aspects of the project.</p><p>8. Prepares status reports and regularly monitors budgets, contractors and schedules. Allocates project resources appropriately; approves expenditures; employee contractor contracts. Keeps an accurate record and electronic data base of all elements of the projects.</p><p>9. Presents procedures, rules and regulations to those involved in the project; maintains a safe, clean and productive environment through enforcing procedures. Maintains project integrity and reputation through compliance with state and federal regulations.</p><p>10. Provide support for product/material trials as well as new products from a technical perspective</p><p>11. Comply with engineering standards exist for electrical, mechanical, controls, and drawing files</p><p>12. Act as a team contributor with inter-departmental needs when new equipment/processes are introduced to insure proper training, technical information, and process improvements are met</p><p>13. Provide support for the AAC teams through project prioritization</p><p>14. Insure proper maintenance of equipment documentation exists in the form of manuals, drawings, machine code and ladder logic diagrams. Standards exist for the filing and content of these key documents</p><p>15. Interact with the local Fire Marshall to insure compliance to local regulations</p><p>16. Interact with OEMs for projects ensuring that Nice-Pak Products, Inc. standards exist in the aid of purchasing capital equipment</p><p>17. Work with process engineers and plant reliability teams to ensure standardization </p><p>18. Provide support to the maintenance and production peer group for requests, problem-solving, layouts, and execution of projects</p><p>19. Work with peers to develop the engineering team to provide high quality technical results and team support.</p><p>20. Become familiar with the tools of Nice-Pak Products, Inc. engineering techniques and build upon those systems</p><p>21. Develop technical process acumen to provide an internal consulting role</p><p>22. Seeks new and innovative ways to streamline the manufacturing plant and to implement and track improvements.
