Mechanical Engineer - Die Design (Entry Level) Direct Hire Position 1st shift

Job Duties:

Prepare, design and detail drawings and specifications of tool, simple dies, fixtures, gauges, machine attachments for shaping, cutting and inspection of metals.

Utilizing sketches and instructions, formulate and visualize original design concepts, calculate machine capabilities, specifications, and apply original ideas.

Detail complex tool and die drawings.

Program Numerical Control Machines.

Prepare material lists for all material used to construct tooling and suggest vendors.

Assist Engineering and Sales Coordinator in filing and maintaining customer files and part prints, tool drawings, inspection reports, routing, specifications and quotations.

Assist in interpretation of drawings and layout of necessary material for estimating purposes.

Work is subject to checking for accuracy, safety and completeness.


  • Solid Edge proficiency- Die design experience
  • Manufacturing experience- Stamping and forming experience
  • Virtual Gibbs experience- Knowledge of inspection gages, measuring devices and read prints


Associates Mechanical Engineering or equivalent

VIEW JOBS 11/1/2018 12:00:00 AM 2019-01-30T00:00 Job Description SUMMARY Cree is looking for a self-motivated, hands-on mechanical engineer to design LED based lighting products for indoor and outdoor applications. This engineer will work within cross functional groups consisting of marketing, engineering and manufacturing to research, develop, design, qualify and introduce products and systems into production. Responsibilities will include support of product introduction and on-site technical support. A successful candidate will be a resourceful problem solver who is able to work around technical obstacles and will be adept at the implementation of practical solutions. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. * Develop, sustain and improve LED based light fixtures for general illumination applications. * Interact with other engineers and technicians of various disciplines including LED, Optical, Electrical, and Manufacturing. * Perform complex tasks and manage own projects with oversight from Mechanical Design Engineering manager and Project Manager. * Lead design from concept to production hand-off including engineering analysis, simulation, part design, tooling design, test, prototype build, component and fixture qualification, safety approvals and production integration. * Provide technical expertise in fabrication methodologies including extrusions, aluminum die castings, plastic injection molding, sheet metal, DFMA, tooling and prototyping. * Work directly with Manufacturing Operations and Engineering to ramp new products and processes into production. * Work closely with other engineering disciplines to optimize system design for performance and cost. * Present design and analysis results to engineers and management * Interface with suppliers to evaluate second sources and resolve technical issues that may arise in manufacturing and to improve cost and quality of designs. * Identify, initiate and implement solutions for process/product development that improves performance, reduces cost, strengthens yield, and increases capability. * Provide technical support and instruction to staff and customers regarding equipment standards, and help solve specific, difficult in-service engineering problems. * Work across company functional organizations to ensure project success. Location: Racine, WI or Durham, NC SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES N/A MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS * B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or other technical related field. * ≤ 1 – 3 years of experience as a Mechanical Design Engineer in a product development environment. * Strong technical background in mechanical engineering principles including heat transfer, strengths of materials, statics, dynamics and machine design. * Experience in mechanical designs and virtual testing through the use of simulation software required. * Proficient with Solidworks. * Proficient with structural and thermal analysis, simulation, and modeling. * Experience in a variety of production environments involving aluminum die castings, injection molding, extrusions, sheet metal and optical components. * Ability to work independently and be self-sufficient while managing multiple projects. * Excellent written and verbal communication skills. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS * B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or other technical related field. * Experience with LED products a plus.
