The Role

Position Summary:

The Mechanical Engineer performs design tasks for robotic solutions, including system layouts, end of arm tooling and the surrounding mechatronic components. Duties also include assisting with future product development concepts, testing, enhancements, and implementation. Validating solution performance through emulation/simulation, technical review meetings, and statistical calculations are required. Completes estimates for modules under development, and estimates own work. Performs reviews of customer standards specification and other documentation to determine tangible requirements. Performs presentations of technical findings and developments to internal and external customers. Contribute to and review customer proposals for appropriate language and accurate scope. Occasional hands-on robotic programming, testing, and validation in live robotic cells is also required.

  • Complete solution design of mechanical, electrical, and software solutions

  • Performing robotic simulations/emulations in order to validate performance

  • Produce AutoCad or other drawings as well as calculations in support of overall solution

  • Support the Design, Installation, and Commissioning of robotic random picking applications for order fulfillment and induction

  • Support the Design, Installation, and Comissioning of robotic palletizing and de-palletizing systems

  • Support the Development of additional material handling applications

  • Additional responsibilities will include supporting and interfacing with conveying equipment throughout system design, installation, and commissioning

  • Produce training material in order to document solutions and provide instruction to Solution Development

Job Family Responsibilities:

  • Assists in the design of routine systems that integrate hardware and software.

  • Assists in routine material specification, schematic preparation and appropriate follow-up.

  • Provides assistance in recommending ideas related to productivity improvement, cost reduction and improvement in customer satisfaction.

What We Are Looking For

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.

Knowledge and Experience:

General Requirements:

  • 0-2 years design experience in an industrial / manufacturing / robotics environment

  • Must have ability to solve design and solution problems

  • Must have good communication skills, internally and with customers

  • A detailed oriented problem solver

Robotics Skills must be able to:

  • Perform reach studies using various simulation software packages

  • Perform cycle time analysis using various simulation software packages

  • Conceptualize and estimate appropriate handling tools

  • Have deisgn experience and knowledge of one or more of the following robot types - Fanus, ABB, Motoman, Kawasaki, etc.

Direction of Others: May provide expert advice, training, and technical assistance to support staff and other employees. Key Working Relationships: Represents the organization as a prime internal contact and possibly a key external contact.
