Job Summary This position will be specifically to design, prototype and construction laboratory automation devices for fluid handling and microscope integration with the Cai lab in the Division of Biology and Biological Engineering at Caltech. This role will be a part of a larger engineering team within the lab. The main focus of our group is single cell systems biology . We use highly-multiplexed, super-resolution imaging to study gene regulatory networks in cells and organisms. More information about the Cai lab is available here . Job Duties

  • Design and construct laboratory automation

  • Other duties as assigned Basic Qualifications

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering or related field.

  • Minimum of three year experience in engineering or related fields

  • Excellent attention to details and organizational skills

  • CAD design skills essential

  • Must have experience with Solidworks or other programs Preferred Qualifications

Perform thermal analysis and heat transfer analysis. Support the design, development, test planning and execution of electronics assemblies. Typical duties: Perform thermal and structural analyses of electronic hardware designs. Determine component temperatures for a variety of environments and assess random vibration fatigue life. Review analyses submitted by subcontractors to customer projects. Support environmental test programs. Support design reviews. Interact extensively with project personnel. Basic Qualifications: Must have an active Tope Secret/SCI clearance. Must have a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering or Physics. Typically has 15 years of experience in structural/thermal analysis and testing of electronic hardware and related disciplines. Must have some capability in thermal and structural design and analysis software such as Thermal Synthesizer System (TSS), ANSYS, COSMOS, Thermal Analyzer System (TAS), Thermal desktop, and Solid Works or equipment. Must have some background in electronics packaging engineering or manufacturing. Preferred Qualifications: Background in environmental requirements engineering and testing is desirable.
