Our Connected Aviation Solutions (CAS) group presents an exciting career opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer to join our Hardware and Infrastructure (HW&I) Engineering team. We are dedicated to developing the next generation of air traffic control systems for civil and military customers worldwide. Our Standard Terminal Automation Replacement System (STARS) air traffic system is currently deployed in every airport across the US. We are expanding our team to innovate the next generation of Air Traffic Control (ATC) systems and provide crucial support to existing fielded systems.
Based at our Marlborough, MA facility, this role offers a flexible HYBRID schedule with 3 days on-site per week.*
What You Will Do
You will contribute to the design and development of advanced DoD, international, and Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) ATC systems alongside our experienced hardware engineering team.
You will be accountable for researching and selecting COTS hardware solutions, ensuring they meet stringent performance and reliability standards.
You will demonstrate your creativity in electronics packaging design using 3D CAD modeling and thermal analysis, ensuring robust and efficient solutions.
You will participate actively in engaging design discussions and reviews, where your insights will shape the evolution of our ATC systems.
You will drive innovation through detailed design documentation, updates, and releases, ensuring accuracy and adherence to industry standards.
You will spearhead prototyping and lab integration efforts, applying your hands-on expertise to bring concepts to life effectively.
You will collaborate closely with internal teams and external stakeholders, cultivating relationships and delivering on project milestones.
You will resolve hardware challenges, manage supplier transitions, and address customer requests with confidence and proficiency.
You will support production activities, including potential travel up to 10% to suppliers to the Merrimack, NH Manufacturing facility, ensuring smooth processes and high quality outcomes.

Qualifications You Must Have
Must have minimum of 2 years of experience in engineering design, with a focus on hardware development.
Must have prior experience in mechanical design CAD tools, including modeling parts and assemblies, and creating detailed assembly drawings.
Must have prior experience presenting design details to stakeholders for review.
Education
Qualifications We Prefer
General understanding of air traffic control systems or the STARS system.
Experience with PTC CREO (modeling and drawing) and Windchill (PDM)
Eligibility/Ability to obtain a Secret security clearance.

The salary range for this role is 64,000 USD - 128,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
