Position Summary

At Jacobs our Mechanical engineers provide a range of skills as part of an integrated building services design. The engineer will be responsible for providing system design: calculations and other related design services including coordination with the designs of other trades (architectural and engineering / internal and external) under the guidance of more senior technical staff. The Engineer will take ownership of the completeness, accuracy and timeliness of the work assigned to you. Individuals in this position must demonstrate the ability to progress from basic design work assignments to more complicated and involved projects working in conjunction with a technical team.

  • Prepare drawings detailing the system designed

  • Assists senior engineer and/or senior designer in the on-going determination of project scheduling requirements, manpower requirements, and project budgets

  • Performs construction administration and field investigation tasks for assigned projects including conducting field inspections and subsequent detailed inspection reports

  • Assists the senior engineer / senior designer in processing RFI's, Change Orders

  • Prepare and document Energy compliance calculations and forms

  • Select equipment and fixtures for use in the building

  • Coordinate work with engineers of other disciplines and architects

  • Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) or Bachelor Degree in Architectural Engineering (BSAE) required

  • Ability to communicate thoughts and technical ideas in an accessible way, both in person and in writing required

  • Attitude of taking independent initiative, exhibiting creative problem-solving, eagerness to learn, while remaining dedicated to teamwork required

  • Experience working in a corporate engineering environment, Internship or CO-OP preferred

  • Experience in Revit, 3D CADD preferred

Job posting end date: The Mechanical Designer creates/revises detail drawings of components and/or assemblies. May change detail drawings to accommodate engineering changes. May specify standard allowances and calculate dimensions within established procedures when dimensions and allowances are unspecified, or detail is sectionalized. RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES * Provides design support to the daily order engineering for recycling equipment as directed. * Utilizes Teamcenter databases and procedures to support proposed changes and insure required forms are properly filled out. * Utilizes current Metso business system to identify existing part numbers, complete descriptions, and calculate accurate weights when creating new or modifying existing Bills of Material (BOM's). * Applies the appropriate weld symbols, surface finish marks, and geometric tolerance symbols when given proper direction. * Makes simple to moderate calculations for component selection when given verbal direction and a good model. * Estimates time required and predicts when the current activity will be completed. * Follow company procedures on security of drawing and proprietary information. * Follows all Metso safety procedures, offers insights on how to ensure an injury free workplace, and contributes to ensuring the safety of others. * Performs other miscellaneous duties and/or special projects as directed. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE * Minimum (2) years' experience in designing machine equipment. * Must be able to identify mechanical parts by comparison to technical drawings. * Demonstrated proficiency in use of computer engineering applications (SolidWorks is a must, AutoCAD, NX, Inventor). * Excellent verbal and written communication skills. * Excellent teamwork skills. * Good interpersonal skills are essential. * Be self-directed and motivated. * Must have ability to complete assigned tasks with a minimum of supervision. * Must be capable of working in a fast-paced environment. * Must be able to function effectively both as a member of a team and as an individual contributor. * SAP business system experience desirable. * While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands and fingers; reach with hands and arms; and talk and listen. * Able to use keyboards, monitors, telephones, scanners and copiers in an office environment. * Demonstrated ability to communicate with other Metso facilities.
