Flux is currently searching for a Mechanical Designer to be part of our onsite team located in Hillsboro, OR. This person will be working with a global A/E-EPCM firm with more than 20 offices around the world and projects in more than 30 countries.



Summary:

The Mechanical Designer will be responsible for detailed phases of industrial facilities system design work on major projects or total design work on projects of smaller or moderate scope.

Primary duties and responsibilities:

  • Applies standard design techniques and procedures exercising judgment in making minor adaptations and modifications to design concepts.
  • Receives instructions on specific assignment objectives, complex features and assistance in deriving possible solutions to unusual problems.
  • Coordinates and directs the work effort of designers on the same project with some responsibility for checking portions of the completed drawings.
  • Prepares addendums and bulletins. Initiates project change orders for submittal to the project manager.
  • Attends construction meetings and produces site observation reports and final punch list. May trouble-shoot design problems in the field during construction.
  • Develops an understanding for other discipline’s needs and requirements and relates them to own discipline and total project scope.
  • Researches design options and documents findings for project engineer/architect.
  • Checks design calculations and drawings.
  • Processes shop drawings, checks to ensure quality accuracy and completeness.
  • Has frequent external customer contact.
  • May be requested to attend training to develop supervisory skills.
  • May serve as lead on single discipline projects.
  • May write portions of specifications and assist in preparing design and construction cost estimates.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Associate degree in the engineering or architectural fields preferred.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD is required.
  • Able to conduct field verification for routing plans including climbing ladders, suiting up in a cleanroom suit, and some verification under 2ft raised floor while wearing a cleanroom suit.

Job Duties * Perform complex mechanical building design and possess the ability to perform that design in REVIT and AutoCAD software. * Strong engineering background and understanding of HVAC systems application in buildings and facilities. * Perform load calculations with industry software (ex. Trace Trane) and Microsoft Excel or other related software. * Manage and execute assignments and assume ownership as the Mechanical Engineer on projects. * Provide support and/or understanding of project management in large and complex projects * Experience should be in a variety of projects such as, but not limited to, healthcare, data centers, mixed developments and institutional/university projects. * Experience must include using software (such as AutoCAD and MS Office) to perform complex calculations, proficiency in Building and Mechanical Codes and Standards, client facing/client relationship/client management skills and effective written and verbal communication skills. * Embrace sustainable design through a Team approach. * Collaborate with other internal and external disciplines to ensure proper building design * Collaborate with Clients to ensure proper building design. * Project Management * Client Management Job Qualifications * Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field is required. * 2-15 + years MEP consulting engineering in the AEC industry. * Professional Engineer License (PE) or Engineer-In-Training (EIT) * Experience must include using design software (such as AutoCAD, REVIT) and Trace Trane, Excel or other industry related software to perform complex load calculations. * Proficient working knowledge in Building and Mechanical Codes and Standards. * Client facing/client relationship/client management skills and effective written and verbal communication skills. * Project management skills to include budget control, interdisciplinary coordination, superior Client service skills and ability to meet Client requests and deadlines within budget. * LEED and WELL Certification is a plus.
