Mechanical Designer Main


You will be designing and developing new product for the Motorcycle industry. This position requires a combination of design and engineer to create the most functional and appealing product, and the ability to bring products from concept to production.

Prepare sketches, detailed models (including surfacing, and drawings, using Solidworks.

Knowledge of casting, injection molding and die casting.

Confer with senior designer, engineering, marketing, or with customers, to

Establish and evaluate design for manufactured products.

Create technical 2D drawings from 3D models that show critical dimensions & tolerances, surface finishes, material & finish callouts and other critical information.

Fabricate models or samples in paper, wood, glass, fabric, plastic, metal, or other materials, using hand or power tools.

Research production specifications, costs, production materials and manufacturing methods, and provide cost estimates and itemized production requirements.

Modify and refine designs, using working models, to conform to customer specifications, production limitations, or changes in design trends.

Evaluate feasibility of design ideas, based on factors such as appearance, safety, function, serviceability, budget, production costs/methods, and market characteristics.

Present designs reviews, communicating design intent, and discuss need for modification.

Participate in new product planning or market research, including studying the potential need for new products.

Read publications, attend showings, and study competing products and design styles and motifs to obtain perspective and generate design concepts.

Review first article samples, verifying fit, form and function.

Mechanical Designer Key


Bachelor's Degree (four year college or university)

3-5 years related experience

Computer Skills:
2+ years using SolidWorks, Surfacing, EPDM, Solid capabilities with using the Microsoft office suite, including MS Project. Rapid prototyping software and technologies are a plus. #greatcareers

Skills/Requirements Requirements: * Good teamwork, communication, analysis, and troubleshooting skills * The individual must be a self-starter, highly motivated, able to learn at an accelerated pace, and willing to put in the time to get the job done * The ability to effectively develop and manage complex project plans, starting at concept and ending at determination of sun setting product. * Demonstrated leadership – the ability to assemble and lead diverse teams, to direct the work of others in pursuit of common goals, to be able to lead and influence cross functional teams and to deliver results on time. * Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering and 10 years of experience in the field and managing teams. * Must have experience in various manufacturing\production processes; die casting, injection mold, forging, plating, finishing, testing protocols and verification\audit process. * Computer Skills: Solidworks, EPDM – Vault retention practices, Microsoft office suite. * Leading DFMEA process. * Experience with CAD processes a plus. * Ability to perform/oversee FEA (finite element analysis). * Experience with lighting and other regulations is a plus (DOT, ECE, Emark). * Motorcycle Operators License; Riders Safety Course. * Ability to accept responsibility and account for his/her actions. * Perform work accurately and thoroughly. * Adapt to change in the workplace. * Valid U.
