Mechanical Designer

Location: Huntsville, AL


Canvas, Inc. is seeking a Mechanical Designer! This role is contingent upon contract award. As a Mechanical Designer, responsibilities may include but are not limited to: providing mechanical design engineering expertise guidance, skills and leadership to create model based design products including, CAD drawings/models to support design review milestones and production operation's needs.


  • Working in a team of mechanical design technicians utilizing 3-D computer aided design (CAD) tools checking drawings to corporate and government standards based on project requirements

  • Developing manufacturing models and drawings meeting ASME Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) Standard formats to support technical data packages

  • Interacting with design engineers and mechanical engineering lead in direct support of manufacturing operations needs

  • Being a member of multiple integrated product teams, reciprocally interacting with other engineers, manufacturing personnel, suppliers, and customers

  • Providing briefing and charts for design reviews, readiness reviews, and review boards


  • 5-10 years experience in field of Mechanical Design

  • Advanced knowledge of mechanical modeling or analysis tools, such as Solidworks/CREO

  • Understanding of mechanical and aerospace engineering principals


Intimate knowledge of ASME Geometric Dimensional and Tolerancing (GD&T) drawing standards and their application


Associates degree or certification in Technical Design Field

Candidate must be a U.S. Citizen and show proof of citizenship.

Candidate must meet applicable COVID safety requirements and protocols.

VIEW JOBS 9/8/2022 12:00:00 AM 2022-12-07T00:00 <p>Position Description</p><p>Dynetics, a wholly owned subsidiary of Leidos, is seeking a passionate, detail-oriented problem solver to serve as a designer supporting the development of a Thermal Protection System as a part of the nation's leading Hypersonic Production Program conducted within Dynetics' Advanced Materials Product Group. This role offers the opportunity to work remote up half-time.</p><p>As an integral member of the TPS production team, the ideal candidate will serve as a Designer supporting development of mechanical and electrical drawings for a flight TDP. The candidate will be responsible for working with engineers to design support tooling with manufacturability in mind, should be capable of interpreting and creating mechanical and electrical drawings, have a strong knowledge of GD&amp;T, be skilled with CAD software like Creo and SolidWorks and should have strong communication skills.</p><p>The applicant must be able to create mechanical and electrical part and assembly drawings, generate a bill of materials based on drawings and specs, and work closely with both engineering and configuration management personnel. This position requires at least two days of in-office support, however more in-office support may be needed.
