Mechanical Design Engineer

+ Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Materials Science Engineering
+ Experience with 3D mechanical design using SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD program
+ Experience working in Product Development in a manufacturing environment with lean, one-piece flow production lines

  • Develop new products. Work closely with software, firmware, and electrical engineers to drive new product introductions and innovations.
  • Utilize SolidWorks CAD to design and develop mechanical components.
  • Form new ideas and designs for innovative products to be used in measurement applications.
  • Create prototypes and proofs of concept for evaluation.
  • Design for manufacturability and Lean production assembly.
  • Knowledge of Machine Shop, CNC, and external Fabrication suppliers on design reviews and optimizing the manufacturability of mechanical components
  • Develop manufacturing fixtures and transfer new products to the production floor

The Food Safety Supervisor position is responsible for all quality assurance and food safety related internal audits in adherence with regulatory standards. The position supervises the QA Food Safety team leads and food safety technicians operating on both day and night shifts. Additionally, the position develops, implements and manages quality control and food safety systems designed to ensure continuous production of advanced composite materials and applications (consistent with established standards, customer specifications and production goals). Essential Functions Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. * Manage plant compliance of Organic, Gluten Free, Health Department, SQF and other regulatory programs * Manages the department engaged in inspection and testing activities to ensure high productivity and high technical integrity. * Ensure a high level of internal and external customer service. Investigate (and correct) customer issues and complaints relating to quality. * Develop and analyze statistical data and product specifications to determine standards and to establish quality and reliability expectancy of finished products. * Coordinate objectives with production procedures in cooperation with other plant managers to maximize product reliability and minimize costs. * Create, document and implement inspection criteria and procedures. * Interpret quality control and food safety philosophy to key personnel within company. * Maintain active role on internal continuous improvement teams. * Design, develop and implement quality control training programs. * Provide, and oversee, inspection activity for product throughout production cycle. * Interact with procurement to ensure quality of all purchased parts. * Address nonconformities from previous internal and external audits. * Conduct a management review of the quality and food safety systems. * Follow-up on and closing pending preventive and corrective action requests. * Ensure that organizational systems and training is in place. * Ensure that documentation and design controls are appropriate for organization. * Administer document control and configuration management system. * Oversee established calibration and testing program. * Assist the management team and provide QA support as necessary. * Provide all employees with necessary tools, proper training and corrective direction. Competencies * Leadership: train and develop a team of food safety employees * SQF Practitioner and/or Production Quality Assurance leadership experience * Performance Management: assist management for assigned production lines * Problem Solving/Analysis * Results Driven * Communication Proficiency: speak to employees with tact and diplomacy * Time Management: tracking/monitoring production and maintaining productivity * Technical Capacity: computer literacy to input information into the computer * Learning Orientation: able to take direction and relay information to employees Supervisory Responsibility This position supervises the work of all QA techs and leads of the department assists in the performance management process and hiring of the employees within that department. Work Environment While performing the duties of this job, the employee is in a manufacturing and assembly environment and is regularly exposed to freezing and/or cold temperatures (0ºF- 40ºF). The employee may be exposed to fumes or airborne food particles and allergens, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment and job sites may be loud. Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, stoop, reach and lift for 10 hours with or without reasonable accommodation. The employee is required to use hands to handle, or feel objects and/or tools. The employee is required talk or hear with or without reasonable accommodation. The employee must regularly lift and move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds with or without assistance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and peripheral vision. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are varied according to shift and production schedule. The employee is expected to work no less than the designated 40 hour work week, which includes routine time spent with the night QA team. Significant weekend work depending on production schedules.
