  • Responsible for full 'cradle to grave' design of food automation equipment.
  • Broad scope of challenges, including weldment design, gas & liquid plumbing, combustion devices, HVAC, mechanisms, linear motion, high level integration etc.
  • Gather input from stakeholders and translate into design requirements.
  • Conceptualize, design and analyze hardware to meet various design requirements.
  • Create necessary drawings and coordinate with vendors to get parts fabricated on budget and on-time.
  • Coordinate hardware assembly and conduct testing. Provide operating procedures and support for others.
  • Conduct and participate in various hardware design reviews.
  • Take the initiative on other roles and tasks the company needs to succeed.


  • Minimum of 3 years-experience in mechanical design engineering.
  • Very familiar with structural and mechanism design with a strong grasp of the engineering process and fundamentals.
  • Be very familiar with design for manufacturing and coordinating with vendors.
  • Skilled at generating part/assembly drawings and ASME GD&T standards.
  • Comfortable working within design/budget constraints and finding creative solutions.
  • Experience with hands-on fabrication and/or machining.
  • Skilled with basic hand and power tool fabrication.
  • Adept with mechanism and structural assembly.

MECHANICAL DESIGN ENGINEER (PROPULSION COMPONENTS) The Propulsion Components team develops the most advanced spacecraft and launch vehicle components in the world. Our engineers serve as hardware experts for the flow control devices and mechanisms that drive the critical capabilities on our Dragon and Falcon vehicles - from engine throttling to attitude control. We design and build valves, regulators, and actuators for maximum reliability in extreme environments, with temperatures ranging from +900F to -400F and pressures beyond 10,000 psig. Component design engineers take full ownership over their hardware: urgently troubleshooting issues at test/launch sites, performing hands-on testing to inform development or root cause investigations, implementing design or test upgrades to improve reliability or reuse, and enabling valve production and certification. Falcon is approaching 10-flight reuse and its highest-ever launch rate in support of our Starlink satellite deployment, and Dragon has already completed a successful mission with crewed flight capabilities this year. We are seeking hands-on engineers to tackle open-ended failure investigations, rapidly implement design upgrades, perform flight-like testing to ensure mission success, and deliver components at an industry-leading rate without sacrificing quality or capability. RESPONSIBILITIES: * Responsible for troubleshooting, development, and flight readiness of valves, regulators, and actuators on the Falcon 9 and Dragon vehicles * Support, troubleshoot and document component anomalies that arise at the build, test, or launch sites * Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams on valve and vehicle investigations * Generate detailed drawings and coordinate valve manufacturing with the production team. Generate and maintain component specifications * Develop and execute qualification test plans to ensure readiness for flight (vibration, shock, thermal cycle, life cycle, flow testing) * Spearhead root cause investigations and redesigns to improve reliability or production rate * Certify hardware for crewed flight and repeated reuse through testing and analysis * Present and clearly communicate analysis, test results BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: * Bachelor's degree in engineering discipline or physics * 1+ years of experience designing and analyzing mechanical systems via professional work experience, project/research-based student experience, or a combination of both PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE: * Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills, enthusiasm for problem solving, and desire to optimize modern rocket production and launch processes * Master's degree or 1+ years of professional experience in mechanical or aerospace engineering * Experience designing, building, testing and troubleshooting mechanical systems * Understanding of fundamental principles in fluid systems and solid mechanics * Strong project management skills and effective communication of technical concepts across multi-disciplinary teams * Hands-on experience with fluid and/or gas handling systems * Leadership experience on a project or research team * Experience using test instrumentation and control components (e.g. pressure transducers, thermocouples, resistance temperature detectors, relays, solenoid valves, etc.) * Knowledge of electro-mechanical devices, actuators, motors, valves, regulators, or other fluid control devices ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: * Travel to vendors and other SpaceX sites as needed * Able to work flexible hours and occasional weekend support as needed ITAR REQUIREMENTS: * To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
