Mechanical Design Engineer, Senior

Job Description:

As a Mechanical Engineer at MACOM, you will partner with New Product Development teams to develop and support advanced test solutions at MACOM's headquarters in Lowell, Massachusetts. You will be challenged by a diverse mix of new products, applications and technologies as MACOM serves a broad spectrum of high performance markets "from RF to light". You will also be responsible for supporting the transfer of test solutions to contract manufacturing partners, typically overseas. Your skills and knowledge related to RF/DC/mixed signal measurement challenges, combined with your mechanics and thermal management understanding, will be key to your success, as will your attention to detail and your passion for excellence.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Test Engineering and Design Engineering to specify test fixture needs.

  • Design and document test circuit boards and complete test fixtures that comply with the specified needs, showcase the DUT performance, and demonstrate production worthiness.

  • Design Mechanisms and analyze loads, and strength of materials. Work with and identify new suppliers to partner with, champion new fabrication processes.

  • Perform thermal and thermos-mechanical stress simulations. Familiarity with CFD simulation is a plus.

  • High level familiarity and use of 3D Additive manufacturing processes, and implementation

  • Conduct fixture design reviews to ensure top-quality fixtures from top quality procedures.

  • Establish fixture standards including materials, layouts, components, methods & procedures.

  • Train personnel on methods & procedures for building, repairing & maintaining fixtures.

  • Support transfer of test solutions to contract manufacturing partners, domestic & overseas.

  • Design and work with SolidWorks and AutoCAD models for fixture design.

Job Qualifications:

  • BS in ME and a minor background in EE.Master's in mechanical engineering preferred.

  • Minimum of 5 years of Manufacturing experience, or equivalent industry experience, RF/DC and mixed signal test solution development desired. The successful candidates will have a solid understanding of thermal, mechanical, and RF/DC/mixed signal measurement trade-offs.

  • Hands-ons problem solving with experience creating and assembling hardware for experimentation, and design feasibility studies. Comfortable with using hand tools and fabricating components for engineering purposes. Able to use and be proficient in 3D SolidWorks Mechanical engineering software, with experience using thermal and stress simulation add-ins is a plus.

  • Ability to learn in a Production environment working with new types of RF test equipment and software.

  • Creative execution of ideas into mechanical designs.

  • Detail oriented with strong fundamentals in core engineering principles.

  • Excellent diagnostic and troubleshooting skills for test fixture hardware.

  • Familiar with Gauge R&R or ANOVA analysis, Six Sigma a plus.

  • Ability to present analysis in Excel/Power point presentations.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Able to lead and mentor younger engineers.

  • Shows initiative and Can-Do attitude to address daily problems to achieve rapid resolution. Willing to work in a self-directed environment.

  • Ability to work effectively with engineering peer groups in a dynamic, collaborative and results oriented environment.

  • Due to ITAR regulations, candidate must be a U.S. Citizen, National, or Permanent Resident with the ability to travel within the US and internationally occasionally.
