Group/Division

The Global Service Support Organization (GSS) team headquartered in Milpitas, CA is our service organization that consists of Service Sales and Marketing, Spares Supply Chain management, Field Operations, Engineering, Product Training, and Technical Support. The GSS organization partners with our field teams and customers in all business sectors to maintain the high performance and productivity of our products through a flexible portfolio of services. Our comprehensive services include: proactive management of tools to identify and improve performance; expertise in optics, image processing and motion control with worldwide service engineers, 24/7 technical support teams and knowledge management systems; and an extensive parts network to ensure worldwide availability of parts.

In GSS engineering, we are working on making design changes or creating new designs for existing tools and platforms to deliver performance improvements, improve reliability, or deliver design changes that improve customer experience. As part of these engineering designs, we need strong mechanical engineering support through mechanical design that covers both subsystems and subsystem-tool interface. In this role successful candidates will be responsible for:

  • Understanding system and subsystem requirements. Making sure that requirements are clear and agreed upon

  • Performing feasibility studies and proof of concepts if necessary including rapid prototyping

Performing concept and detailed designs using 3D modeling standard software packages (ProE, etc.)

  • Understanding cost, schedule, and scope with trade offs when necessary

  • Modeling of vibrations, heat transfer, airflow, and other attributes that might impact system performance

  • Holding design reviews and securing buy-in from stakeholders and matter experts

Procuring parts

  • Assembly, testing, and documentation

  • Release process according to KLA's standard processes

  • Contributing to system-level discussions including impact on overall system performance. Help with troubleshooting and resolving issues and escalations both at subsystem and system levels

Designs are expected to be accepted by manufacturing and service groups. Design changes start by understanding the current designs and understanding the pros and cons of different design options and the involved tradeoffs. Attention to failure modes and what can go wrong is very important and successful candidate is expected also in helping in developing FMECA models.

This person will work closely with mechanical engineering staff and assist in the development of design documents including engineering reports, calculations and analysis, drawings, specifications, and engineer's opinion of probable construction costs. Typical projects include: * Performing complex building mechanical design on a variety of projects at the direction of the Lead Mechanical Engineer. * Military single and multi-story office buildings, residences, barracks, aircraft hangars, vehicle maintenance garages and shops * Commercial single and multi-story office buildings, laboratories, manufacturing, testing and computing facilities. * Municipal and Industrial Water and Wastewater treatment facilities including administrative, laboratory, treatment and ancillary facilities. We welcome experiences in building types outside of these categories as they bring new insight to our designs. * Perform HVAC load calculations, energy models, life cycle cost analysis and ventilation calculations in conformance with applicable codes and energy efficiency standards. * Experience running energy simulations for buildings both in the conceptual and final phases for system selection analysis as well as LEED/EPAct proof of compliance desired. * Familiarity with developing specifications using SpecsIntact and MasterSpec. * Sizing equipment and developing layouts for airside and hydronic systems. * Coordinating with other disciplines as well as other internal and external team members (e.g. vendors, clients, and contractors). * Prepare construction documents including drafting utilizing REVIT or AutoCAD MEP. * A strong knowledge of control systems, protocols and interfaces and familiarity applying concepts to construction documents. * Experience with RS Means, and general exposure to construction estimating, is preferred. * Performing construction assistance in the form of responding to contractor RFIs, reviewing shop drawings, and performing construction site field observations reports and preparing punch lists during various stages of construction. * Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college or university. * EIT license or ability to obtain within 12 months. * Proficiency utilizing Trane Trace for load calculations but considerable experience in other platforms such as Carrier HAP, EnergyPlus, or EQuest is also acceptable. * Knowledge and interest in building mechanical equipment including fans, chillers, cooling towers, air handlers, chilled and hot water loops, boilers, motors, pumps, variable speed drives, direct digital temperature controls and building automation systems. * Familiarity with design of plumbing systems and/or performance based fire protection systems desired but not required. * Intermediate knowledge of ICC Codes, United Facilities Criteria (UFC's), ASHRAE handbooks / standards, SMACNA standards, and NFPA requirements. * REVIT/BIM experience desired; * AutoCAD experience desired. * Excellent communication, and computer skills required.
