Fluke is looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer Intern to join us for a summer internship program here in Everett, WA. We are a dynamic, global company doing business in more than 100 countries, and universally recognized by our customers for our quality. As the Mechanical Design Engineer Intern you will be working with handheld unit and sensor design. You will also be assisting with the development of standards and prototypes for supporting new products and features.

Learning Activities:

  • Gain expertise in instrumentation and process control domains

  • Gain expertise in mechanical unit development

  • Experience in researching new technologies

  • Work with a team of mechanical, software and hardware engineers


  • College student from a local school pursuing their Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar field.

  • Ability to take an active role in defining, designing and implementing mechanical solutions.

  • Ability to research and evaluate new technologies

  • Good communicative skills and ability to work in a team-focused development environment.

As a Mechanical Systems Brake Engineer, you will be working on wheel, tire, and brake technical projects that directly impact the performance and safety of our airplane portfolio. You'll be an integral part of supporting all Boeing Commercial Airplane models both in development and service, including programs such as 737MAX, 777/777X, 787, KC-46 Tanker, and the next generation of commercial aircraft. Over the product life cycle, we develop equipment from the conceptual stage with high-level requirements to specific designs enabling specific performance. Various analysis tools and methods including modeling and simulation are used to mature the system definition which includes the functional and physical integration of the system and components into complex aircraft. The team also has responsibility for new technology development to ensure that Boeing continues to lead the industry with the most advanced wheel, tire and brake technology. Position responsibilities include (but not limited to): * Develop and manage hydraulic and electric brake equipment by collaborating with other organizations such as Aerodynamics Performance, Structures, Flight Deck Crew Operations, Pilots, Electrical Systems, Systems * Stress, Customer Services & Airline Customers, Manufacturing, Flight Line Operations, Supplier Chain, Airplane Safety and many others. * Establish wheel, tire, and brake design, performance, and verification test requirements. * Collaborate with Aerodynamics to define brake and tire performance requirements that support airplane takeoff and landing mission requirements. * Work with global suppliers to develop and test new wheel, tire, and brake designs and improvements to existing in-service designs and production methods. * Perform brake thermal analyses, engine run and idle thrust analyses, and other analyses to support internal and external customers. * Conduct various types of analysis and/or simulations, use of CAD systems such as CATIA V5, and math modeling with tools such as Simulink, Matlab, and EASY5. * Verify designs and performance by developing and executing supplier lab test programs. * Verify designs and performance by conducting flight tests ranging from taxi stops to maximum brake energy rejected takeoffs to demonstrate that our systems meet Boeing and regulatory requirements. * Develop certification plans and data to show regulatory compliance for wheels, tires, and brakes. * Coordinate with airplane programs and production and delivery operations to resolve build issues and implement production changes related to rolling stock. * Work with Customer Services, Airplane Safety, and airline customers to ensure continued safe and economic operation of wheels, tires, and brakes. Qualifications Required Qualifications: * Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree in mechanical, civil, or aerospace engineering (ABET accredited). * This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a "US Person" as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required.
