Boosted is looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer with CAE experience to simulate structural and thermal performance of critical subassemblies using analytical techniques and FEA and create rapid prototypes in our machine shop to quickly iterate on features

The Role

  • Simulate structural and thermal performance of critical subassemblies using analytical techniques and FEA

  • Create rapid prototypes in our machine shop to quickly iterate on features

  • Work with vendors to manufacture proof of concept prototypes

  • Identify performance parameters and create technical specs to guide part and assembly design

  • Own design of key technical components through the development phase and into production

The Requirements

  • Strong engineering fundamentals including thermodynamics, dynamics, and mechanics

  • Strong experience with FEA including thermal and mechanical modeling

  • Strong knowledge of material properties

  • Skilled at creating and testing analytical models of critical design features

  • Skilled at creating technical specification documents

  • Working knowledge of mass production manufacturing processes

  • Proficient in CAD (SolidWorks preferred)

  • Strong documentation skills

  • Strong hands-on prototyping skills - machine shop skills (CNC programming a plus)

  • Minimum 5 years of work experience outside of degree program

  • Experience developing highly technical mechanical design projects through to production

  • Familiarity with hardware development cycles

  • Experience with electric powertrain and battery pack design a plus

  • Experience with vehicle design a plus

Boosted is expanding and we are seeking a senior mechanical design engineer to join our engineering team. You are a committed, hands-on individual that has the breadth and understanding of transportation space and consumer goods industry. The Role * Work closely with our industrial design team to design plastic, metal, and composite parts for use on upcoming products * Create technical documentation such as part drawings or assembly manuals * Create quality test documentation and design test fixtures to ensure a successful ongoing production process * Support our suppliers and CM's through the entire manufacturing process * Help choose and implement CAD file management solutions as the engineering team grows * Make on site visits to CM's as well as regularly communicate via email and phone The Requirements * Deep understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals * Highly proficient in mechanical CAD including FEA (SolidWorks preferred) * Have worked closely with industrial designers * Have worked with multiple suppliers and managed vendor relationships (not afraid to pick up the phone) * Have worked with overseas CM's * In depth understanding of a wide variety of manufacturing processes including injection molding, die casting, forging, machining, ultra-sonic welding, and finishing processes * Thermal modeling and heat transfer * Have at least 5 years of real work experience beyond your degree program * Familiar with PDM or vault systems for mechanical CAD * Proficient in BOM management (Arena BOM a plus) * Skilled at creating engineering documentation ranging from mechanical part drawings to technical documents * Skilled in GD&T (geometric dimensioning and tolerancing) * Great at execution and used to working under schedule constraints * Self-motivated, take ownership of projects * Team oriented * Organized * Willingness to be flexible What we offer * The opportunity to work with an incredible team that's revolutionizing the way we move. * Catered lunch everyday * Snacks/drinks available throughout the day * Medical/dental/vision insurance * Flexible Spending Account (FSA) plan * Commuter benefit plan * Generous time off policy * Team outings and ongoing events Boostedboards Mountain View CA
