Job Summary:

The Machinery & Tools Group (Kouki) Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for the ground up mechanical design of new equipment, the overhaul of existing equipment to be reused for new projects, as well as integrating automation into existing equipment to lower labor cost. He/she is also responsible for maintaining the overall build schedule for each job and developing all needed documentation such as drawings, BOM's, and machine manuals to support modifications.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Understand and implement safe work practices in compliance with company policies.

  • Participate in design reviews with engineers, manufacturing, or other end users to determine application requirements.

  • Plan and executing mechanical designs using CAD and 3D CAD programs.

  • Performing computer simulations and experiments to virtually test and refine the designs.

  • Oversee the development and manufacturing of physical parts for equipment.

  • Work closely with mechanical and electrical technicians during the machine assembly process.

  • Prepare technical reports, design specifications documents, and operational manuals.

  • Manage automation projects including purchasing, scheduling fabrication and assembly, debugging, and delivery to customer.

  • Lead the final installation, setup and testing of equipment within the production line (either within ANC or another Aisin facility within the US).

  • Be the main point of contact for engineers and outside contractors during machine installation.

Accountabilities:

  • Maintain a safe working environment, following company set policies and procedures.

  • Maintain a positive working relationship with all personnel in the company, supporting cross-functional project needs and objectives ensuring all groups hit targets as outlined.

  • Accurately maintain all records for each machine assembly based on project plans.

  • Responsible for ensuring that existing equipment is modified to improve it's functionality.

  • Implement kaizens to improve manufacturing metrics, including but not limited to Availability and Labor Reductions

  • Accurate planning and budget development for investments in existing equipment and various projects involving modifications of resources

  • Create and maintain accurate and confidential documentation for changes to processes and equipment, allowing for continuous improvement of company procedures

  • Participate and lead on a cross functional team to ensure that project objectives are met on time within company quality standards

Advanced Knowledge, Skills & Experience Preferred:

  • BS Mechanical Engineering and a minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience.

  • Proven knowledge of design and engineering principles and best practices.

  • Strong working knowledge of pneumatics

  • Proficiency with engineering design programs such as AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor or Solidworks

  • Quality oriented while setting priorities, goals, and timetables to achieve maximum productivity.

  • Self-motivated, self-directing, with strong attention to detail and excellent time management skills.

  • Works well in a group environment, with the ability to lead projects in a cross-functional environment.

  • Ability to work under limited time constraints. Establishes a systematic course of action for self to ensure accomplishment of a specific objectives. Able to multi-task and work under pressure.

  • Ability to work overtime including weekends as needed.

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills. Ability to clearly communicate information and ideas that others understand and will follow. Also, providing information to supervisors, co-workers, and vendors by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in person.

  • Strong data analysis skills and ability to solve problems.

  • Ability and willingness to travel with overnight stays may be required to install equipment in other Aisin locations in the US.

  • Willingness to attend training to enhance knowledge. Training may be off site and require travel and overnight stays.

  • Proficient level of skill in using MS Excel, Word, and Outlook.
