Provide CNS Mission Engineering with full time design engineering support in Y-12 Facility Design for facility and production area activities needed to expedite the closure of Change Requests for Configuration Managed systems that have been returned to service for longer than 90 days. The responsibilities for the design engineer are:

  • The Engineer must have familiarity with and experience in developing design output in accordance with CNS and consensus national standards (ie. NFPA 70/ National Electrical Code, ASME, etc.);
  • Experience in a NRC or DOE regulated environment is desirable along with an understanding of Conduct of Engineering and Conduct of Operations for facilities operating within a nuclear regulated environment;
  • Have strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interface effectively with various production and support organizations
  • Review Change Requests(CRs) for systems that have been Returned to Service (RTS) >90days that have not been closed;
  • Identify the Affected Documents associated with CRs RTS that need to be revised to reflect the work covered by the CR;
  • Perform walkdowns as needed to verify that the work covered by the CRs has been performed;
  • Review and compare information shown on Affected Documents to work defined by the CRs;
  • Prepare redline markups of Affected Documents to reflect the incorporation of the work covered by the CRs,
  • Provide the redlined copy of the Affected Documents to drafting personnel for incorporation onto the Parent CM document;
  • Provide check/verification that Affected Documents reflect incorporation of CR information correctly

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Mechanical Engineering discipline highly preferred.
  • 5+ year of relevant professional experience.
  • Must have familiarity with and experience in developing design output in accordance with CNS and consensus national standards (ie. NFPA 70/ National Electrical Code, ASME, etc.)
  • Experience in a NRC or DOE regulated environment is desirable along with an understanding of Conduct of Engineering and Conduct of Operations for facilities operating within a nuclear regulated environment.
  • Have strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interface effectively with various production and support organizations.
  • Must possess an active DOE Q Clearance or a DoD Top Secret Clearance; however, candidates with a DOE Q Clearance that is reinstatable (having undergone a reinvestigation within the last 2 years) may also be considered.
  • Due to the nature of the government contract requirements and/or clearances requirements, US citizenship is required.

This position supports our Nuclear Services & Technology team that provides full service nuclear design solutions to the federal government (DOE, NNSA, and NIST), nuclear research, and nuclear medicine. This highly motivated team-oriented Mechanical Engineer would support HVAC system design projects for our Los Alamos office. Client projects for this position require U.S. Citizenship. Job Description The successful candidate will design HVAC and Plumbing/Piping system for a variety of facility projects. Tasks include developing design calculations, process flow diagrams, sequences of operation, equipment selection and layout, ductwork and piping sizing and layout, support of project proposals, interdisciplinary coordination and participating of QA/QC process. Requirements Degree Requirements: Bachelor of Sciences in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET Accredited Program is required. Minimum five (5) years related experience. Experience with thermal load calculation and energy modeling for mechanical systems. Experience in calculating and sizing of mechanical equipment including AHUs, fans and pumps. Experience in sizing and laying out ductwork and hydronic piping systems. Must be familiar with AutoCAD. Must have experience with Revit building information modeling software. Professional Engineering license is a plus. Client projects for this position require U.S. Citizenship. Ability to meet vaccination mandate requirements for Department of Energy (DOE) client site access for this position is strongly preferred.
