NICTD intends to hire a Mechanical Department Shift Supervisor to serve at its Michigan City Shops. This opportunity allows a highly motivated individual to use his or her well-developed skills in teamwork, communication, technical knowledge, and practical thought to meet NICTD's requirements for safe, reliable, and cost effective maintenance of its rail fleet.

Salary and Benefits: Salary ranges from $55K to $66K.

Salary will be set based on the candidate's skills, experience, and consistent with pay structure for others in comparable assignments. Health care, dental care, vacation, holidays, supplemental pension plan, Railroad Retirement Board benefits, and comp time are some of the benefits available. Credit for time served in other railroad employment, including approved military leaves, will be applied in determining vacation day entitlements. Relocation benefits are potentially available.

The successful candidate will provide leadership in ensuring that work is performed safely to efficiently produce and deliver quality steel products to our customers. Responsibilities: * Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and environmental standards. * Continuously improve equipment reliability through best maintenance practices. * Perform detailed technical calculations pertaining to equipment and mechanical computations and communicate with team members to resolve any questions or issues as needed. * Recommend and/or perform predictive, preventative, and emergency maintenance on equipment. * Resolve equipment malfunctions, including those requiring scheduled shutdowns or breakdown action. * Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated reports. * Manage the planning, scheduling, and cost controlling of maintenance and engineering projects. * Manage technical aspects of assigned projects in accordance with customer contract requirements, budget, and production schedule. Seek methods or procedures that reduce costs and/or increase production efficiencies. * Complete project responsibilities for design, specification, review and development of mechanical equipment or systems. * Analyze current operating performance and standard operating procedures and make recommendations for improvement. * Supervise a crew of hourly maintenance employees, and uphold and enforce safety, environmental, job procedures, and maintain general discipline of the crew. * Communicate with upstream and downstream operations and non-ArcelorMittal contractors to coordinate work, deliveries, and service. * Various other duties, as needed, to support the business. Minimum Requirements * Bachelor's degree (BS) in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology OR equivalent relevant experience * Experience supervising or readiness to supervise * Must be able to work in a hot, dusty environment. Climbing stairs, ladders, and walking inclines. Able to work/walk safely on uneven surfaces. * Must be able to perform duties on different shifts for a multi-level organization which operates 24/7 Possess the ability to work effectively within a team environment, utilizing clear and effective communication skills. * Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. * Proven communication (verbal and written), analytical, organizational, and time management skills.
