Mechanical Automation Engineer

  • This position is under the direction of the Manufacturing Engineering Manager and includes responsibilities related to specifying, designing, fabricating, and qualifying new equipment and equipment improvements to drive improved productivity, capacity, cost reduction, and efficiencies.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree (BSME preferred)

  • OR, a minimum of 4 years demonstrated applicable technical experience

  • Proficient in MS Office and SolidWorks (or similar)

  • Professional Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems using systematic methods

  • Experience applying engineering principles to mechanical designs

  • Experience in contributing to an engineering team to execute project tasks within budgetary limits and time constraints

  • Experience in technical writing including reports and procedures

  • Exposure to the specification, design, and fabrication of a mechanical system

  • Exposure to engineering tools and methods for tasks such as experimentation (DOE), risk assessment (FMEA), process control (SPC), and statistical analysis

  • Exposure to design and implementation of automation systems for high-mix/low-volume production desired

  • Medical Device/Biopharmaceutical manufacturing (i.e. GMP, FDA, ISO13485) experience desired

  • Self-motivated with good problem solving and communication skills

What will you do? * Generate new product designs and iterate through development. * Customization to existing product lines. * Research and develop new technology. * Some project management of assigned projects. * Interface with and provide support to process engineering, quality, purchasing, manufacturing, sales, and marketing groups. * Perform risk analysis. * Produce CAD solid models and conduct engineering analysis of components/ systems. * Responsible for materials and component selection, specification, testing, and analysis. * Generation of specifications and documentation. * Create engineering test plans and reports. * Interact with customer base on new product concepts and processes. * Communicates with diverse audiences and internally with higher levels. How will you get here? Bachelors degree in engineering - mechanical, manufacturing, or materials and 2+ years experience or Masters degree in engineering and 0 years' experience. * Engineering design and analysis. Proficient at good engineering practices. * Development of test plans and test protocols. * Plastics design experience and processing knowledge for the following: injection molding, extrusion, blow/cast films, and plastic welding. * Metal design experience and process knowledge for the following: formed, stamped, welded, extruded. * Experience in the medical device, biopharmaceutical, or cell therapy industries preferred. * Material selection for the biopharmaceutical or medical device industries. * Drawing generation, engineering standards, testing, and FMEAs * Software proficiency: MS office programs, CAD (SolidWorks), PDM (Solidworks ePDM FEA * Working knowledge of electro-mechanical system hardware, software and schmatics * Project management.
