Position Overview

This position will provide comprehensive mechanical assembly support to Proterra's Greenville Site Production Supervisor and other site leadership team members. You will be responsible for providing a full range of mechanical assembly solutions to client groups at the site and be in an environment where you can have a greater impact.

About the Role You will:

Assemble or produce component parts into completed units within blueprint specification and/or design tolerances; performs minor adjustments, repairs or setups to equipment or machines.

Maintain acceptable performance standards for assembly, production, quality, safety and housekeeping.

Inspect parts or completed units by using visual inspection, gages, tape measures, check fixtures, calipers or other inspection equipment.

Assemble, align, test and inspect parts to form complete units or subassemblies of a variety of standard products where procedures and methods are prescribed. This may involve many parts, close tolerances and interrelated factors.

Coordinate with other setup or leader personnel for associate job assignments, or setup personnel for movement of materials or coordination of duties.

Responsible for maintaining daily 5S standards, including proper daily storage of hand tools.

This position will be part of the Greenville based Production team that supports Proterra's Manufacturing and Engineering operations in Greenville, SC.

You will report to the Site Production Supervisor and collaborate with other Production members located at our headquarters in Burlingame, CA and other manufacturing facility in Los Angeles, CA.

This role provides key expertise on the team related to lubrication systems for gearboxes and bearings. Essential Responsibilities: As the Senior Mechanical Engineer - Lubrication, you will: * Provide expertise in lubricant applications, including oils, greases, additives, contamination, life prognostics, and basic applied tribology * Provide expertise in lubrication systems, including automated greasing systems, lubricant pumping, oil filtration systems, and reliability * Own execution of assigned projects related to lubrication systems with minimal oversight from concept through implementation to drive Productivity (cost out) of planned and unplanned maintenance on Onshore Wind turbines * Meet schedule and deliverable expectations for assigned projects using creativity and problem solving to overcome obstacles and preserve or increase savings potential * Pro-actively collaborate and lead coordination of supporting project activities with stakeholders across the global organization including new unit segments, product line, regional services, Digital, sourcing, etc * Evaluate technical risk for cost out projects and lead or execute mitigation actions (including testing or monitoring) to validate product quality after implementation of the productivity project * Clearly communicate project status, issues, risks, benefits, recommendations, etc to leadership & business stakeholders * Execute projects and tasks consistent with engineering policies and procedures * Conduct design reviews with Chief Engineers for technical approval * Assure proper documentation of technical data generated for the assigned projects * Pro-actively assist in generating viable productivity ideas through technical evaluation of current planned and unplanned maintenance * Collaborate with new unit design teams for life-cycle cost optimization of new turbines related to lubrication selection and lubrication systems * Assist in development of tools, processes, or methods to streamline productivity project execution Qualifications/Requirements: * Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent from an accredited college or university * Minimum of 7 years of engineering experience Desired Characteristics: * Expertise with grease and/or oil lubricants for bearing and/or gearbox applications, including additives, contamination, useful life, and basic applied tribology * Expertise in development of lubrication systems, including filtration, pumping, and automated systems * Experience with practical application, operation, & maintenance of lubricants and lubrication systems in fielded equipment * Pro-active, motivated, innovative, and passionate in finding viable solutions to meet goals and objectives with minimal oversight * Effective technical problem-solving abilities with strong technical aptitude * Effective team player with strong interpersonal skills and ability to partner across global organization to drive change * Strong oral and written communication skills * Basic project management skills, including technical risk management * Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt quality certification or equivalent * Advanced degree in Engineering or equivalent To stay connected with exciting news and the latest job opportunities from GE businesses, follow us on twitter: @gecareers About Us: GE Renewable Energy harnesses the earth's most abundant resources – the strength of the wind, the heat of the sun and the force of water – to power the world's biggest economies and the most remote communities.
